CTD + NPC out of Place?

Recommended Posts

It's not my first time modding skyrim. I'm carefully adding mods into my game and make sure I do install all requirements for any new mods to be added. I also check regularly if a added mod is incompatible with a existing one in my Load Order.

After my Game got unplayable bc i couldnt enter certain areas or when certain npcs walked by and the game would crash, I deleted the game and installed it all over again.

I am having a weird glitch or bug, where for example the Dragon Priest Morokei wouldnt be in his tomb but rather be in Riverwood or in the windhelm stables area (????). Also my Game CTDs when entering interiors AGAIN just like it did the last time before deleting the game and setting up a fresh install.

The CTDs started when I completed the Quest "In my Time of Need". I went over to Riften for the Amourous Adventures Quests there and upon trying to go through the door to where Maul hangs out at the Riften Fishery, the game crashed. I rolled back a save where I didnt complete that quest and I was free to roam around the Riften Fishery. Now the Game CTDs when entering the Blue Palace.

Help would be very much appreciated as I have no more ideas on how to fix this POS of a Game, even though I am using LOOT and BOSS.

So, I have three questions for you:

1) While LE has several stability tools SE has only one:

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230

Do you have it?

2) Would it be possible to see your FNIS output? That is everything that FNIS generates when you run it (it should start with a description of your skeleton and end with the numbeer of animations that you successfully loaded).

3) More personal, and you don't have to answer, but this is not a highly LL-centric load order. Why did you choose to pose your question here (as opposed to Nexus, for instance)?

1) I do have the linked mod installed. Don't know if its working though lol

2) I don't have a huge amount of Animations installed I think. Besides Flower Girls and 0SA, I have some Animations altering male and female movement and sitting animations. I am also not running any script-heavy (quest-)mods or anything. The CTDs happen when entering the Blue Palace atm., even though I am using a completely clean savefile.

3) I did ask in the nexus a while ago for help but that time it was regarding another problem and i never got that answered lol. Overall I made better experiences when asking for help here in LL, bc the users here seem to have more knowledge about modding and are trying to be more helpful (imho that is).

I guess you figured out by now that my native Language is not english, but I'm trying to answer any questions as good as I can^^

Some more basic suggestions/comments.

1) What warning did FNIS give you? It says one warning but it doesn't say what it was.

2) Tick the .hkx box in FNIS.

3) You don't need Realistic Ragdolls, it is included in XPMSSE.

Having done those (or decided to skip them since I doubt any of those will stop your CTD) go back and double check that all your mods are the SE versions. Problems such as you have described have been noted to be caused by accidentally using the LE versions of mod(s).

Your English is more than passable. You've done well with it so far.

1) It tells me to run skyrim/Skse once through steam, which i can't bc i don't want my fallout 4 to update as i have it modded and dont want to lose them^^

2) Alright I ticked it and will run the game now.

3) Okay, i'll uninstall it right away.

Update: I did run the game now and uninstalled all the mods from Oldrim, even though they were only makeup mods.

-> Game still crashed upon entering the Blue Palace. It seems to be only that Interior.

Having made those changes please try again with a new game. If you crash entering the Blue Palace then, open your last save (that is save before you try to enter the Blue Palace) and then use the console to move yourself into the Blue Palace (open the console, type in "coc SolitudeBluePalace" without the quotes and hit enter).

I started a new game and entered the console command as instructed -> CTD after loading screen was done.

Used FallrimTools to clean my Save -> CTD when entering Blue Palace

I disabled any mods altering the NPCs in that cell -> Still CTD.

I'm out of Ideas.

If you CTD when you use the console to enter a cell you have a corrupted mesh. Sadly, only by replacing it can you hope to fix your problem. While you can reload the entire game (that should work) so should verify game cache files (or something to that effect, sorry I am not at my home computer where I have access to my actual Skyrim game) which you should be able to find in your Steam directory.

Is there any way to find out, which mesh causes the crash to happen?

I just don't understand, why that keeps happening. I will change my Mod Organizer in the Future. Not gonna use NMM after this again -.-

Nevermind I managed to get inside the cell now WITHOUT crashing!!

I disabled a lot of mods and in my anger, i was to blind and probably (by a lot) stupid to write down, which mods i actually did disable, because even though i did NOT save I am only being told which .ESP files are missing upon loading the save.

Im guessing, it is the "Skyrim Particle Patch for ENB SSE"-mod which was causing the crashes, but can't say for certain.

While I can not verify that either, an ENB mod is certainly a likely prospect for corrupting a mesh. You SHOULD know which mods (totally) you disabled by looking at your current load order and comparing it with the one you posted at the beginning of this thread. You can then add back mods 2-3 at a time and see if you have a recurrence of your crash and thereby work out your culprit.

I will most certainly be doing that. Thank you for all your help and patience! With out you, I would probably never figured out, that a bad mesh is the source of the crash.

As I said, in my Anger and Desperation I disabled bunch of mods that could be containing bad or incompatible meshes and now I know for certain that neither a script-mod nor a Follower mod was the source of the CTDs.

Thank you again and have a good day (or night wherever you are :D)

You're welcome. As I often say, any gratitude that you think I deserve I'll take in "likes". That is the green thumbs up button found in the lower right hand corner of any post. It is grayed out until you hover over it and click it. By the way, you can also "like" mods here on LL (which you can think of as similar to endorsing a mod on Nexus). So, if you find a mod that you like, or that you would consider recommending to someone else, or simply want to say "thank you" to the mod maker go to the page where you download the mod, go to the bottom right hand corner of that "post" and "like" it. "Liking" a mod is actually easier in some ways since there are usually other likes already there making it easier to find the symbol.

So I did turn on a couple of mods and as it turns out it wasnt the Particle Patch mod but rather "ElSopa 4k Steel armor".

Can't explain why it would be that one, but as i deactivated it I was able to enter the cell with no problem whatsoever.

Thanks for telling me. I'll keep an eye out for that in load orders in the future.
