From what I understand, Aseprite was once open source itself. Libresprite is version that forked from that. Apparently you can also still just compile Aseprite yourself for free on their github (or some git equivalent, I forget), but I don't know if that's still the case or not.

I just manage my pixel artist team for my projects. I have no real power other than leading and making sure things are assigned and finished.
