The mod team themselves declined it in no small part because of how much of the code would need to be updated or changed outright to get things working in Special Edition. It isn't impossible but it isn't as simple as optimizing a few meshes or textures this time. Skyrim Romance will stand for a time as one of the best reasons to keep Legendary Edition installed.
