Women's opinions on feminism, gaming, loverslab, etc

So, this has been stewing in my head for a while, and since I think LoversLab is a very open, nonjudgmental and actually intelligent board, I wanted to get the thoughts of its female members.

 

Like a lot of male LoversLab members, I enjoy sex mods for games (please, contain your surprise), from mods that make female PCs and NPCs nude and allow my PCto have sex with them, to darker, raunchier mods that allow rape and animal/monster sex with female PCs/NPCs. Now, I know rape is wrong (and hate that I feel obligated to have to state that), I don't treat women like objects, am very respectful, all that. Still, I wonder if I should have more issue with not just the rape mods, but enjoying seeing nude pcs, seeing sexualized female game characters such as Ivy of Soul Calibur or the cast of Dead or Alive.

 

A lot of my uneasiness about this subject has come from the increased discussion about the role of gender in gaming as of late, especially on Kotaku. (Yes, discussions of gender on Kotaku. I was shocked, too). Still, these numerous, sometimes thoughtful, often unsubtle, articles and debates got me thinking about how I view not just women in gaming, but enjoying something like xLovers. I love the female form; it's fricking awesome! But should I feel bad for enjoying it on its own merits? Should I feel bad about raping female npcs/allowing my female pc to be raped?

 

So, I'd really like to hear from our fellow female board members. I can understand the hesitation to admit that you're a woman on the internet (one of many issues this subject is making me consider) but I'd be interested to hear from the other sex's POV on this matter. If you don't feel like being open about it in the thread, I'd readily appreciate a private message. Perversion on the other hand are individual responsibility.

Games and Porn means very little on essential matters in life.

Who's supposed to tell you? You decide whether you should or not. If you got morals' date=' then let them decide for you (not recommended). Or, as many do, let the TV answer your doubts. Or let the fear of social judgement do so. Personally though, I would suggest being honest to yourself and realise that, while perhaps not everyone, many fantasise about ... pretty much every sort of "debauchery" you can imagine.

Is it inherently wrong? This I can answer: nothing is in this universe. Let's tackle the problem from a more utilitarian point of view: does it hurt anybody's sensory receptors? I'd say it doesn't, normally.

 

Now, about "objectifying" individuals. Videogames are made to entertain, as are films, narrative books, visual works in general, music, etc.

If you please, answer this (well, not literally; I don't really need an answer that ultimately is only relevant to you): do you feel more entertained when you see a DoA character with huge boobs bouncing and skin showing, or when you see an averagely shaped and dressed female person?

Clearly this depends on personal taste, but I'd bet some of my money that the first option would get the most votes. Pretty much everyone in games is "objectified" to varying degrees, regardless of their sex. Why? Simply because it normally is more interesting and entertaining this way.

Sex exists, it's a fact of life. Most people often think and fantasise about it, this is due to how our brains are structured.

You could learn to lie to yourself and pretend you're something else, but you'll never actually be (you could as well learn to walk on all fours in your daily life, but you'll always be a bipedal lifeform). Unless you've got some anomaly going on in your brain, you enjoy all things "sexy" (whatever that means to you), you prefer the company and sight of attractive people over that of not so attractive ones, your brain feels rewarded when its baseline tastes are satisfied, and a little less rewarded when its rationalised tastes are fulfilled. You really have no choice in this.

 

This huge mass of words, summarised: "do what thou wilt" if you want to enjoy your momentary individuality. If you don't, then do what they want you to think you like.

 

I hope I managed to maintain an illusion of coherence along this minor wall of text.

I also hope it doesn't bother anyone when I post stuff, I think I'm doing it mainly to improve my English skills.

I actually think feminism is a valid idea, at least the definition of "the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men". Man hating, female superiority and other such stuff, however, I think is nonsense. Still, curious to see what other women might add to this topic, though I think QueenBeen pretty much summed it up in the thread Emily linked to.
