lambient1988 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Hello, I have, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AMD FX-8350 16 GB DD3 RAM 2 x Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB running in SLI mode Skyrim and all mods install a on 512 GB SSD. I am running Skyrim with RealVision ENB and it's recommended mods. I get 30 FPS outside but I enable SLI and launched no Skyrim and nothing changed. There was 0 FPS change. I check Open Hardware Monitor and both card's GPU Core and Memory Clocks were being used with the load being shared evenly amongst them. But they were both at 40% usage. And I am already using Crash fixes' 'osAllocators=1' script to make Skyrim use more resources. How do I make them use more to boost Skyrim's performance? Was I supposed to make changes to the INI files or the ENB files for SLI configuration? Because I made no changes the INI files. Requesting assistance.
Guest Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Skyrim does not really benefit from a high end graphic card. SLI is completely ignored (tested for a couple of years.) It is more CPU-bounded. So the only way I found to improve the FPS is to get a better processor or a faster ram. Of course you can tweak your config to be less demanding and increase the FPS.

Oops, I forgot to mention the CPU in the first post. Edited. Well, just before I read your post I was doing some further testing and realized that my Skyrim has been using my CPU upto 90%. And that's a FX-8350. If only there was an option to transfer the CPU loads onto the GPU. Oh well, thank you for this answer, I guess I will have to buy a newer CPU. 20 minutes ago, CPU said: Of course you can tweak your config to be less demanding and increase the FPS. What is this blasphemy you speak of?

NEVER! 1 FPS LIFE, HERE I COME!

Be aware: i7 7700K 4.4GHz 2 x 1080TI (not overclocked) Asus A270-X motherboard 64Gb RAM at 2800 (2.8GHz) I run the game usually in window mode at 1080p height (I do most testing of mods.) I go 60FPS 95% of the time. Sometimes it goes 50%. If I enable ENB almost everywhere I got a few FPS less. But still over 50FPS all the time.

I have MSI1060 and i4590 with my ENB config at 1080p its stable 60\90fps out\indoors with the big grass mod BUT, when I switched to new 4K HDR TV and new beta Rivatuner v7.2 beta my fps got locked to 30. Reinstalling Skyrim ini files didn't help. Fixed it only by rolling back Riva to v6.x and reseted INI config without ENB dll (reinstalled ENB after). So the problem can also be from MSI afterburner software with new nvidia installation drivers.Maybe that info will be useful for you also.

But even with the i7 7700K plus ENB you don't get 60 FPS at all times. I wish Skyrim was more optimized. I wonder how all those YouTubers like MxR Mods pull off 60 FPS with so many mods and so much grass.

I think my processor might be slow but I should look into my configuration as well, it's not optimized correctly I guess.

It was Skyrim SCO Summer Edition mod. All that grass was dropping down my Skyrim's performance down to 20 - 30 FPS. Getting 60 FPS with that mod disabled (I have no other grass mods, screen shot is full unmodded grass with 'iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure = 20' and 'iMinGrassSize = 20'). But the ground looks horrible now. Pauduan Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 With nVidia cards, try turning off TAA. That should help. I'm not sure what makes you think the 1060 can do SLI (regardless of what you see on forums/Youtube). See if other games are getting benefits, specially those with good scaling. I presently run two 1080s in SLI and notice very good boost in some areas. Key word is some, because in places that are CPU-bound (Riften/Solitude + JK Skyrim + SMIM + Noble HD2K + Verdant + SFO - the nograss version) the FPS drops like a rock, down to 30 fps some places with a bunch of high-poly mesh mods (I run 2560x1440). In most outdoors I'm locked to 72 FPS which is the max refresh rate of my monitor in overclocked mode and what I consider the upper limit of the Havok engine.

It's stated in RealVision ENB's settings. 8 hours ago, Pauduan said: I'm not sure what makes you think the 1060 can do SLI (regardless of what you see on forums/Youtube). I am using DifferentSLIAuto and it's working with the latest graphic drivers (418.81 which are the latest as of making this post). I have tested with other games and even the GPU usage, both GPU Clock and Memory Clock. Both cards get used equally to provide performance boost. Although, Skyrim was left unaffected because even on single GPU the load never reached 100%. It was around 70%. The reason why the game was lagging was different altogether, it was my grass mod, Skyrim Climate Overhaul Summer Edition. 8 hours ago, Pauduan said: I presently run two 1080s in SLI and notice very good boost in some areas. I am having exactly the same results. Cities are laggy cause of JK's Skyrim and Grass takes down my game to 30 to 45 FPS, never more. So I guess I am on par with everyone else but my quest does not end here. I am going to try my best to see if I can get more. To not be par on everyone else, but to be better than everyone else. Thank you for your inputs. :)
