DrPal Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 When I try to join Harkon after he offers to turn me into a vampire my game will crash when teleported to the Volkihar Cathedral. Things I have tried: 1) I have cured myself of lycanthropy. 2) I contracted vampirism and waited 3 days to complete the transformation. 3) I added the vampire lord spell to make sure that wasn't a problem and it worked fine. 4) I dismissed all followers (besides Serana) before going to Harkon. I really don't know what else to try. I loaded Dawnguard.esm in TES5edit to check for compatibility problems, but I don't really know what to look for.

I see no obvious problems in your load order although I am curious about which of the Serana mods you have (given that your crash occurs in Castle Volkihar the most likely culprit should be something that impacts Dawnguard DLC). I am using Seranaholic v1.7, but I have been running around with her for a while now with no issues. I also have all the mods you mentioned. Could I assume that it might be a problem with the quest or something that spawns in there for that quest?

If it is something spawning it is likely in the cell with the player when he/she awakens. Something interfering with the quest would do likewise. If you have no better idea you may want to try getting a papyrus log at the time of CTD. That might give a clue.

If it is something spawning it is likely in the cell with the player when he/she awakens. Something interfering with the quest would do likewise. If you have no better idea you may want to try getting a papyrus log at the time of CTD. That might give a clue. Where do I find the papyrus log? Also do I have to enable logging somewhere?

There are a number of ways to get that information. Let me suggest (egotistically) that the simplest source with the answer is my blog. There are other sources on LL (I believe Ashal has one associated with the SexLab thread). And, of course, you can find that information with a Google search.
DrPal Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 So I couldn't figure out what was causing the crash, but I'm posting my workaround in case anyone else has something like this come up. I just used console commands to advance the quest past the point where I was crashing. I then had to cure myself of lycanthropy and contract vampirism on my own. I also had to add the vampire lord power through console commands as well.
