NPC Thrown Parties?

There is the birthday party where the Sims just ages up and drops dead. Then there are the gatherings for Get Together to go to the club. Then there are dates but that's it. Since Maxis won't make NPC Sims throw parties like Sims 3 did is there a mod to fix that?

I never tried Sims 3 so I can't compare but right now the members of a played household will get notified via phone of parties and events happening with the option to travel to meet the NPC at the location and join in, 

Is that different to how it worked? If so, maybe the phone system can be modded to include B-days and weddings etc?
