Gilanthus Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 I am thinking of re-installing my Fallout4 and Skyrim games, mainly due to.. well, with me testing this mod and that mod out installing and uninstalling mods my games have become pretty much a cluster-F... There are a lot of mods I like for each game(100+) and want to make a list of what mods I like and work well. Other than pen&paper or typing a list in another window, what other options are out there so I can make sure I have downloaded backups for each mod so I can reinstall them with ease?

Luckily the good idea hit me after my 2nd or 3rd game start, somewhere around the 15th mod and right on spot as I decided to ditch the steam workshop in the bin. Nowadays my toolbox is a 6 year old continuously maintained manual list, a regular dump of my Mod Organizer profile and a old USB disk as a backup of downloaded mods and my Skyrim install folder.
QuicksandSlowly Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Yeah you can't trust Steam not to update and break your game. Best to copy your whole game directory somewhere and save either a txt list or a profile of your mods in mod manager with descriptive titles like, "Working Mod set 12/8/18" etc. As far as a list of mods to use I haven't found a really great one yet but there are guides out there. I also sometimes make stable .zip file backups of my entire game directory so if I really fuck something up with my load orders I can just wipe out the whole install and replace it pretty much seamlessly or put it on a new computer or laptop. Works ok for Oblivion, FO3, and FONV at least. Haven't tried re-booting FO4 yet but I was able to get my Skyrim (not SE) .zip working on my new machine with minimal effort and a solid chunk of Sexlab packed in there. Had to re-initialize the mods and do a tiny bit of tweaking/updating/improving but that's to be expected.
winny257 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I have, although I Skyrim no longer play, 2 external hard drives with each 2 TB Storage! full of mods, including many that are no longer available today and of course my modified data folder, one knows yes never, maybe I'll play it once again.
