Queen Bee Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I've been avoiding making this post because I know how annoying posts like this are. But I seriously have no idea what Lovers with PK is or what to do with it. I tried installing it and other mods on my old computer, only to have Oblivion become completely unplayable, even after I deleted all the mods and did a complete reinstall. I've read through the tutorial a thousand times and can't make head nor tails of it, and I have no idea what mods go with what, what mods conflict, how Wrye Bash works (or even what it is) and all of that. The most progress I've made in the past six months or so is I figured out how to install mods using OMM, so that gives you an idea of how horrible I am at this stuff. So yeah. A little help would be nice, if anyone wants to take the time.
gregathit Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Lovers with PK is a sex mod that has multiple plugins. Each of the plugins adds different "functionality" like creature sex, consensual sex, rape and many other things. The best thing to do is start the the Lovers FAQ: http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=3 Then the Quick Install Guide: http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=30 If you still crash then try posting your load order and describe your issue(s) in the tech support thread here: http://www.loverslab.com/Forum-Technical-Support--35 Be sure to read this: http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=6133 prior to posting in the tech support thread. Cheers, Greg
Queen Bee Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 Thanks, but as I already said, I've read those tutorials and I can't understand them. They talk about "install this, but make sure this is set to this" and I have no idea what any of that means. Can someone please talk to me like I'm three?
Ark of Truth Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Well one make sure you have installed everything and run BOSS through it. Then come back here and gives us your load order and we will take it from there.
Queen Bee Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 I don't have a load order. I have a new computer and have a fresh install of Oblivion with no mods. I don't want a repeat of last time, which is why I'm asking for help before I do anything.
gregathit Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I am sorry, I don't know how to break things down any simpler than the OP of the Quick Install guide for lovers. If you have trouble with the basics of mod installations then perhaps you should read through this: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/Oblivion_Mods_FAQ Lovers mods are the deep end of the modding pool and without the basic concepts of understanding where to install things, how to get and post your load order, installing OBSE and other 101 things like that you are going to be in over your head. Don't take this wrong, it isn't that we won't help you but you are going to have to do some serious reading and come to grips with the basics before we can really help you.
arsenic20 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I don't remember exactly what I did, so I can't tell you. But to avoid pain in the future, you might want to build some habits: - only make one change at a time, then boot the game to check. If the game crashes, the last change caused it. - if a file replaces something, make a backup of the old file by renaming it (hurr.dds -> hurr.dds.old), unless you're 100% SURE the new file won't cause a crash. - look through all of a mod's folders before dragging it to get an idea of what it does (and doesn't) include. - build downwards, starting with big mods that change huge things (like the lovers pk main esp) then putting in the little mods last (like the plugins).

I'll keep plugging away and see what I can come up with.
xartom Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Minus Wyre Bash's bain and OMM you can just use the simple cut/copy and paste the stuff to your oblivion data folder (folder named data in the folder you installed oblivion to) method. However, when things go wrong it's hard to track and hard to reverse. Not to mention you'll need something to open up the file you downloaded ending in .zip, .7z, .rar etc to get at the contents for the copy paste. Inside the oblivion data folder named there folders named: meshes, textures, sounds etc (they hold what they say). Beyond that it really varies on what you have installed. Instead of going straight to lovers mods maybe you could try getting simpler stuff like the unofficial oblivion patch mods and texture replacers/body mods working first. The UOPs are installers, so that should be pretty easy to deal with, the body mods will be a good first challenge.
Guest ThatOne Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 In my opinion, you should start with OBMM; it's very useful for many things, but especially for removing installed mods in one click and changing your load order by hand. You install it to your game folder, so that "Oblivion mod manager.exe" is in the same folder your Oblivion.exe is. In obmm folder, make a new folder called "omod". copy any mod you wish to install to that folder. You can place rar, zip and 7z archives too. Run oblivion mod manager.exe (in your install folder), hit "Create omod". Path to the archive or folder you want and select it. Name it, and hit create omod. When it's done, hit "Activate". If things go bad, run obmm again and select the troublesome mod. Hit deactivate. It's now cleanly uninstalled.
Guest Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 This I feel, is a nice guide to start modding a clean vanilla oblivion game with Lovers, OOO (if you so choose), MBP, and such. Is this your first time modding for Oblivion? If so, you need to know some things: 1. NEVER install Oblivion to program files. Always make a new folder for it. If you're using steam, then you can't really do anything. But that's fine. 2. The different types of mods are: mods with ESMs, mods with ESPs, mods that replace/add textures, mods that replace/add meshes, mods that replace/add anims, mods that replace/add other things (such as music or sound effects), a combination of these, and mods that serve as utilities for OBSE. ESMs contain all the data. They do nothing on their own. ESPs take the data from ESMs and apply them. Most mods only need the Oblivion ESM. Some like lovers have their own ESMs. It's self explanatory what the other types of mods do. NOTE: Some ESPs require other ESPs/ESMs to be activated at the same time. If they are not activated your game will crash upon startup. If you are crashing at startup then there's a 99.99% chance you're missing a required ESP or ESM for a particular mod. Go into the data files screen in the oblivion launcher and select each esp. Look to the right to see their requirements and make sure those esps/esms are activated. 3. OBSE is required for any advanced mod. Simply take all the obse data and put it into your oblivion install folder (so that the obse_loader.exe is in the same place as the Oblivion.exe). Run the game through OBSE. 4. OBMM is highly recommended for mods with ESMs and ESPs for reasons previously stated. When you download a mod, peer into the data and see if the mod has ESPs or ESMs. If they don't you'll have to manually install the mods data by merging the folders together. I suggest you install a couple mods at a time. See if the game starts up and their features work, and then install some more. This requires that you also... 5. READ THE READMES. This is critical when installing ANY mod. You MUST know what it requires, what it's compatible with or not, what it replaces, how to uninstall, what it isn't compatible with etc. I made the mistake of ignoring readmes when I first starting modding and I would suffer incredibly from it. All of this applies for Lovers. When you download lovers plugins, make sure you install them with OBMM. Read that guide, it'll really help. Load order is key. As for individual plugins, read the descriptions on their threads. Ask questions on those threads. I hope this helps.
CrimsonOmegaLance Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 IMO, play around with Wyre Bash It seems very complicated at the start, I used NMM for Skyim exclusively before switching to WBash for Oblivion and I was way over my head, but once I figured out how to use Bash, I don't think I'm going to go back to NMM or OMM for mass installations again.
afa Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 If you really really don't want to play with wyre bash you can in theory get around it. You just have to put up with no MBP and creature sexual organ support. There are mods that require MBP tho. Another way to start without jumping head first into all the wyre bash stuff is to look at which lovers plugins interest you first then find out their requirements.
vashar Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 When it comes to Wrye bash, pictorial guides are nifty. Through some skimming, this one looks good. Also, this site is your friend.
