The thing with dogs is' date=' in the absence of humans, tbey look to be the leader themselves. Way dog psychology works is they either have to please their master or be the master.

In the absence of a leader is more acurate. A lot of dogs actually are the pack leaders and humans their servants, even if the humans don't realize it.

This usually happens when humans try to humanize dogs and treat them so. People just have to face the fact that no matter how smart or cute you think your dog is, it's still a dog and they only respect the hierachy of a pack. So you're either a leader or a follower in your dog's mind.

 

If you can't control your dog (not you especificaly, people in general), if it will not stop barking if you tell him to stop, if you can't touch it's food without it growling and showing it's teeth, if the dog usually sits on your feet, you can be sure that you are it's servant and not the other way around.
