Changing Npc race?

Is there a way to change an npc's race WITHOUT messing with there appearance ive tried change it in both TESVedit and creation kit put both mess with looks? 

I just want to change it from a nord to and imperial

There are not many differences between Imperial and Nord.
However, you should re-export the Head (FaceGen) in CK.

 

Note that changes made by NPCs (whether looks, race, etc.) are affected by savegames - so it is advisable to make these changes before the NPC is loaded for the first time in the game.

 

To see if the changes work correctly and are not affected by the savegame.
Start Skyrim, in the main menu open the console with ^
Enter: player.placeatme xxxxxxxx 1

 

xxxxxxxx = ID of the NPC
