So the SSD i had skyrim on died. first install was vanilla then random mods on, second was due to vanilla dying, third skyrim kept crashing over and over so restart, fourth OS had to be reinstalled and i followed the mod guide listed here while trying to install ENBs worked so-so generally wouldn't run longer then an hour without crashing. anyone have tips for my 5th and final install(considering that ES6 will come out around 2020-22 most likely)? gonna put on a HDD . if possible i want to have the full devious and sexlab animation set with as beautiful background as i can. ive seen some screenshots here that are amazing ( i know some are slow fps) and i just wnat that experience in the game without sacrificing the sexy times. specs in spoiler

Your machine id bad leveled... you CPU is too old for manage that video card.

I have a 4 years old i5 4460 and perform better.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4460-vs-AMD-FX-8370

Monitor your CPU ussage while play a NEW game, of course not skyrim is a game from 2011. If CPU ussage is near 100% all the time you must think in buy new CPU or machine, because all in the machine need free CPU.

A game, normally, is pure graphics, but some things are allways computed by CPU, like damages, life remaining... and all scripts in all games need CPU... if your CPU ussage is 100% constant some things in the game can go bad.

For other side, 8 gb of memory is too low for today. I have 16 gb in win7.

Same as the CPU, all in the machine need memory, if your run out of memory windows must get it from hard disk, ussing virtual memory, and is a very slow process.

All the free memory is ussed for cache, and that mean the data are in pure memory, that speed up the machine, and not need be requested from the hard disk.

If you not have free memory for the cache the data must be get from the hard disk constantly and maybe for that you hard disk break.

Aditionally, skyrim is totally stable today, i play everyday with more than 200 mods for 2, 3, 4 hours whitout any problem, not have any CTD this year in my stable installation. If you have CTD is evident that you have some bad installed or/and bad configured.

so i need more cpu and memory?

All depend about HOW you want play and HOW you want see your game.

I have a 4 years old machine with i5 4460 and a simply gtx 660 2gb and i not need more.

I can play every day for hours with more than 200 mods and near cero problems in full hd resolution (1920x1080) at 50-60 fps and i think my game not look bad, but see it. In that post you have some of my screenshots and some have FPS in yellow, you can see from 45-60.

Buying a new CPU means buying a new machine because it has to change the CPU, the motherboard and the memory, and those 3 components add up to 50% of the cost of a new machine.

Buying more memory for an old machine can be an option, because it's very cheap, about 50 euros here in Europe, but you should see how much time you can use it.

If you can play on your current machine for 1 or 2 more years with a little more memory, it's a good investment, very cheap.

If you send your current machine to the trash in 1 or 2 months because adding memory is not enough is a bad investment, you lose money.

hmm, i have no intention of replacing my current motherboard for at least 4-6 years ( just got in 2016) , more ram is on my to do list for upgrades. a thought occurs to me . i can use mod organizer to make separate mod profiles right? would it be possible to make a profile with just the graphic enhancements and one with the script heavy mods(sexlab, cursed loot, etc) and a third that combines the two so i can swap between what i need to in order to make the game stable and to test for any issues without affecting a stable core profile? or would one profile be sufficent

I not like MO and i use NMM. Normally i make a new profile every time i want install a new big mod, like i made the past month when i upgrade to DD 4.1 because a lot of user have problems with it. But i only make this when i must install some big mod's and not make it every week.

If you want multiple profiles MO is the best option because MO can change the profile in some seconds.

With NMM i need a lot of minutes for make the same and the perfect change is not warantied by problem in NMM.

But have multiple profiles can multiply your problems because you must manage each independent profile in manual way, and sure one profile can works but the other profile not works and you not know why.

For one side is a waranty about sure you can play with at least one profile.

For the other side is a real headache have 2 or 3 profiles, and mean sometimes you can want play with the same mod in the 3 profiles and you must make the same 3 times and SURPRISE, work in some profile but not work in other. That exactly i reffer with headaches and aditional problems.

Really, I not recomend you have more that 2 profiles. One stable and one copy of the same for test.

Install the mod's that you machine can manage and search for a configuration that you are happy with it.

Play with your game and not lost time figting with MO and figting with what combination of mod works and what not works.

I have more than 200 mod's and all works perfect at the same time.

I see players with 300, 400, 500 mods working witouth any problem all at the same time.

Not worry about how many mod's you can play at the same time and not worry about if your machine can manage it or not. Simply, download, install and test. If not works or not like remove it.

You should seriously consider retiring that fx cpu, fine for desktop and some gaming on mid or low end gpu but that 1080ti is just wasted in there.

I'm not one to crap on those as I used them on the job for a few years because they were cheap and reliable but they were only barely better than the old athlons they replaced. Modern lowest end ryzen quad core for 100 bucks will outperform the 8370 and you can pick up mobo cpu and memory for only a bit more than you paid for just that 8370 in 2016.
