[NEED HELP] Steam wants to install Skyrim even though its

already installed and I dont want to lose my things such

as my setup and all the mods ive been working on as WIP.

How do I make it so I can have steam recognize I already

have the game installed?

It should only replace files if they are vanilla game and have been altered, nothing else including plugins.txt and ini settings would be changed as long as you point it to the directory where skyrim is already installed.

With that said backup everything anyway which hopefully you already do  because drives fail and components crap out and like to destroy the one thing you worked longest on, this is according to Murphy's law most recent updates.

As a first step I would say: Stop Steam and do a full backup of Skyrim.

In the second step, I would ask myself - why?
Any ideas?

I took my laptop to work yesterday and I dont use the internet there because I know

its monitored. I was going to play Skyrim while at work because I have a lot of free

time there in my office but then steam wanted me to log in because I forgot to

go on offline mode and I forgot my login info that I leave at home. So this

morning I wanted to play and I logged in then it was bugging me install the

game I already have as 100 gb in my HDD
