what are the main mods ?

I know how being new to this whole thing felt. When it comes to NSFW people arent exactly going to make classes on youtube or anything so you're gonna have to crawl through Loverslab. (There aren't really NSFW stuff for skyrim anywhere else and if there is chances are it either came from here or its here too). You'll get a lot of your dependencies from the Nexus too. So no matter what its gonna be a lot of learning how to get things to work. Everything is built on everything else so even though you want to get to the real crazy stuff you're gonna have to start from the basically like getting a good looking body on that character of yours. and work your way up. Yeah yeah i know its supposed to be fap material not a college course. But if you do like we all did and take 100 mods and just drop it all into your skyrim folder you'll be all excited when that transfer that took hours gets finished and you'll go to open the game and it'll crash and then you'll be blueballed. Get ready to see a lot of crashes sometimes for no reason at all but the cool part is there's a fix for everything

what i can do for you though is leave you a list of things you can do so you're not wondering wtf to do next:

BASICS

1. Well for one use legendary edition if you can. SE still works for everything and there's always more mods coming to it. But a lot of the content here is from people are inactive now and you'll miss out on a lot. But all of these steps will work for SE too.

2. Get a mod manager. And learn how to use it. i recommend Mod Organizer 2 but there are few different choices. find one you like

3. Install the basics that 99% of your mods are gonna need:

3a. USLEEP (It's a patch for LE. skip it if it doesnt apply)

3b. SKSE

3c. Sexlab Framework

3d. FNIS, FNIS creature pack, FNIS spells

3e. Bodyslide and Outfit Studio.

3f. LOOT

3g. SkyUI, and/or UIextensions

3h. PapyrusUtil

4. Learn about body replacers and how to use them. The main two are UNP and CBBE. but both work for bodyslide. and you'll see a lot of acronyms like UUNP, UNPB, TBBP, ect. But dont worry I'm pretty sure those only relate to UNP and if you're using UNP you'll be set. I personally started with CBBE and switched to UNP because i feel its easier to do things with. Both look great though.

5. Create a clean save. I recommend installing the mod Live another life, loading up skyrim, getting out of the character creation screen, wating 10 seconds and then saving.

6. When installing a mod read the description and the requirements and conflicts section. than read them again.

7. Don't install a bunch of mods at once. Test your game for each mod you install. if you can load a save and the everything works and looks okay for like 10 seconds. then everything should be fine. if you install a mod and then your game crashes a couple of times at the same point. go read the description of that mod again. If you still cant figure it out ask for help.

once you get all of that installed and figure out how to use it all. you have a good starting point for really anything you want to install. Everyone's set up is different from here on out but if you need help you can go to the particular support thread for that mod. I'm gonna give you a list here of more advanced things you can (and probably should) as well as some mods and tips that'll help keep your game stable. to save you some possible headaches in the future:

ADVANCED

1. Learn how to use the console in skyrim and some of its basic commands. you open it with the ` key (the one to the left of your 1 and under the escape key)

2. Look into ENB and ENBoost. At the time of righting there's a lot of issues with ENB on windows 10 so if you're on windows 10 just install ENBoost (just the binaries) and learn how to configure your enblocal.ini file.

3. Learn what your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini files are and how you can tweak them to resolve issues.

4. Not really an advanced thing but something you should really do BACKUP EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME

5. SLAL, Sexlab Tools, Racemenu, Crashfixes, Safery Load, Load game CTD fix, ini file editor. All will help with stability and customization and control

6. Install TES5EDIT and learn how to use it. Well at least to clean your master files. Theres a great youtube tutorial by Gopher. Other than using it to clean master files its mostly a modders resource. But cleaning those files helps ALOT with stability. just DO NOT clean skyrim.esm EVER.

Other than all of that the world is your Oyster. Sorry i haven't linked to anything but that would take forever but you'll find everything on google. I kinda approached this NSFW skyrim stuff the same way you are where I just wanted to start with everything and anything and work down to the things i liked the most. So I'll leave a copy of my mod list here for you too:

I agree with most stuff but i'd like to make a couple of corrections:

BASICS

If using legendary, use MO 1. MO 2 was explicitly for SE and still has more flaws and bugs than MO1 especially if used with LE version, not a single reason to use MO 2 for that.

MO has a higher learn curve than NMM at the beginning, though. My sig has some guides how to set it up properly, plus the tools you want to use with it. As a reward it's way easier and faster to find and fix problems later, and no doubt there will be some. We've all been through this. ;)

3. ...

5. Create a clean save.

I recommend installing the mod Live another life, loading up skyrim, getting out of the character creation screen, wating 10 seconds and then saving.

Not entirely wrong in general, but a couple of mods really want to be installed from scratch, plus changing load order "midgame" can cause it's own troubles. I'd rather suggest to start the game (with LAL) and all the mods you want, then give it time. Rather a lot, make a coffe or take a shower or something like that. 5 minutes should be enough but 10 seconds won't do.

Also, some mods require a save to be loaded to work properly. Not that it wouldn't happen sooner or later but after waiting go to the MCM and config your mods, save and load and wait again, like a minute or so. Then everything should be fine.

I'd count ENBoost and crash fixes as basics, without them you'll end miserable sooner or later. And i don't even have a clue what syrimprefs.ini actually does, but i'm sure it's not necessary to touch it to get a stable game - making it unstable is totally possible though.^^

Something that was kinda mentioned but too important not to mention it again: don't install too much at once.

Some mods will conflict, in many cases you can make settings to get a workaround and maybe even make them work together nicely, but for that you need to know which mod does what. Considering that some single mods have so many possible settings to make that their menus are overwhelming on their own when you see it the first or even fifth time, it's better to get a bit used to a couple of mods and then adding more.

And finally: don't plan a long playthrough to the whole vanilla quests, and probably not even for lengthy quest mods. You WILL encounter problems on your way and struggle to fix them. When you start modding you'll probably learn that in some cases, the problem is baked into your saves and the only guaranteed way to fix them is to start a new game. So when it comes to that, it feels much less frustrating if you don't have big plans from the beginning but rather a "lets test this and once i've figured it out i'll start new and properly" approach.

Two awesome but not too lengthy quest mods (which don't really like heavy setups so good to start with) are Get stripped! and Thief. Not really sure if they're compatible, but i'd recommend to try at least one of them once you've got the basics working.
