Shadowboost

Has anyone else tried this?  It seems to dynamically scale down shadow quality for distant shadows (not close up shadows) until you reach an FPS threshold that you set in the ini.  It was made for Fallout 4 but seems to work in Skyrim SE as well.  I was skeptical but my FPS in outdoor areas went from a range of about 20-40 with an average around 30 to a range of 35-60 with an average of about 40 with Shadowboost and I haven't noticed any difference in visual quality.  40 FPS was the target I set in the ini.  I may try tweaking it higher and see if I notice any degradation in visual quality.

Yes but that is for Fallout 4, not Skyrim. It's very good and helps a lot but unfortunately is abandoned, it doesn't get updated in a very long time.

Maybe, but the page he showed was for FO4, I don't play SSE so I wouldn't know, heck...I don't even play Oldrim anymore...lols

SE uses same engine, it works for SE just fine.

While it doesnt work for FO4 because of Creation Club updates.

It isn't the same engine, LE's engine was updated to use DX11 and 64x. Then Skyrim was tested on it and they realized it worked so they decided to do SE. After that test Beth made all of the changes to the engine needed to make FO4, so it sorta is but it isn't like FO3 and FONV using the exact same engine.

Also this site is hosted on Boris's server so you could ask him about a possible version designed for SE, he knows the author.

The shadowboost is not worked on anymore, as it doesnt work for FO4 anymore, so the only use it has is I guess "cracked" or older versions of FO4 and SE.

So i'm confused, are you saying this only works for older versions of Special Edition, or older versions of Fallout 4 AND current updates of SE

As an alternative to Shadowboost, there is this.  I used it in FO4 and it worked nicely.  The same settings should work for Skyrim (haven't tested it myself, so buyer beware,,,)  Best yet, no esp/dll to worry about if there are upgrades (unless something resets your ini).
