failed to initialize renderer

hi so i have a serious problem 

 

last day skyrim gave me this error "failed to initialize renderer " on startup do note that the only thing i changed before that was disabling fast startup 

 

i tried everything including re-enabling fast startup, updating my gpu drivers, restarting, uninstalling my gpu from device manager then restarting, deleting both skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini heck i even tried system restore and still nothing worked 

 

can anyone help i pretty much lost hope after spending an entire day trying to solve this to no avail 

 

a side note all other games are giving me similar errors for instance stardew valley is giving me "no suitable graphics card found"

i'm on a laptop with nvidia gtx 1050 and i made sure it was the default card not the on-board graphics and the game has been running smoothly ever since i bought it

Try to reinstall the GeForceExperience (uninstall it first.)

When installing it, select to also to reinstall drivers, and check the option "force clean install".

 

An error like this looks like due to the operating system (Windows) having a corrupt definition of the installed card.

already tried that when installing the newest driver i chose to have a clean install also i chose to not install the experience only the driver

 

any idea about how to fix the OS thing i had the same idea but didn't know what to do

Download and install gpuz. is a small tool and give you a lot of info about your video card. Look the dropdown in the bottom of the window. If show more that one video card you have enabled the on-board video card and is recomend you disable it in the bios of the laptop if can.

Some laptops not permit that, and you must figth with the games for force it select the powerfull videocard and not the weak on-board.

 

You have a laptop and sometimes the normal drivers not work in some laptops. Is recommended that you download and install the drivers from the manufacturer of the laptop and not use, for example, drivers from ndvidia web site. Download and install the drivers for the two video card's if you have two.

 

In last, download and reinstall ALL drivers, because the problem can come from Motherboard or sound drivers not only from video drivers. All are drivers and all are related. And verify updates for your operating system. Some drivers require some operating system updates for be installed.

Try to get GPU-Z (GPU not CPU) and check if it recognizes the graphic card correctly.

well GPU-Z did recognize the graphics card from the dropdown so that rules out the possibility of a fried GPU at least but the thing is i played countless times without disabling my on-board

 

i'm downloading all the drivers from ASUS that are for my device in hopes that something works

a thing though GPU-Z is not showing any info on the 1050 no memory size no clock speeds nothing it's all zeroes or unknown should i be worried 

 

another thing also this seems to only effect games photoshop runs on the same gpu and it is saveing DDS files that require the nvidia plugin to work flawlessly

Do not worry ... the information may be missing because the manufacturer of the laptop did not give it.

When using the integrated card, each manufacturer can manage it differently, for that you must use the asus drivers, in your situation.

Normally, a laptop is just a board with all the built-in equipment. Only some specific peripherals are generic and interchangeable, like the hard disk, the cd-rom and, sometimes, the wifi. The rest is usually integrated into the board.

 

I suppose you have an antivirus installed and running. If not, go to any antivirus page such as norton, mcafee, panda and run the online scaner. Some viruses and malware can interfere with the installation of the drivers.

If your machine worked fine a few weeks ago and suddenly starts giving problems it can be a hardware problem. Do you got any BSOD?

 

Photoshop is a 2d program and not use the 3d modeling. Is normal that work.

The nvidia plugin is only that, a plugin, and is used for write a file in a specific format, not more.

not a few weeks ago it literally worked two days ago, yes i have an antivirus and no BSOD it only happened once since i bought this laptop

thnx a lot mate the problem was the latest driver i installed i should've installed the latest driver for my device not the latest driver from nvidia cuz that seemed to have fixed it

Your problem appear a driver issue, but if the video card appear in the device manager of your computer maybe the drivers are correct and the problem is DirectX.

Try launch a directx diag. If see some errors, try reinstall directx.

nope no problems found with dxdiag

it's known problem

you have update your windows 10 recently? if yes - you need to reinstall windows for completely remove this problem - so it's very hard decision etc etc

 

or you can try open skyrim in windowed mode... but propably you can loss game quality  so try this

nope i actually turned off updates (like that actually helps) and yes i already run the game in borderless windowed mode 

 

i will most defiantly not reinstall windows too much to lose and too much of a hassle for me
