Book drop rate + How many pages to construct a book

I have a few questions for the audience (and I probably need to figure out how to spread this around so anyone interested can weigh in... )

I have a few books that are illustrated one way or another. I have a LOT of single page single picture Notes that will drop from NPCs as well (or could be placed the game world should someone desire).

1 - What would an appropriate drop rate for Notes be? (I am picturing them as pages from a porn mag or old colonial USA broadsheets of a sort. Something someone might posses cheaply and could have one or could have 3) but I don't know how rich and successful the bandits, wizards and other malcontents are in people's Skyrims.

2 - Some of the Notes could be considered a series, whether by content or because I found a set of images by a single author that fit my idea. Some of these I'm thinking of making into constructable objects as a book... collect 3 or 5 or 15 to complete the book, and possibly gain a skill point or, if I can, reuse the Oghma script for 1 point to all skills in a school.  How many make sense though? I might have 100 notes (I haven't counted them yet, and I need to make some of the "book" items into a series of notes).  If you need 15 notes and I have 150, with 1 per 3 bandits, you'll never make anything while it would be useful.

3 - How many pictures would you want in a book that you create? All of the ones you need to collect (15 pages does take a little extra time to flip through) or just a sample of 2-3?

1. low,... maybe 10% or even less. Making them uncommon raises the thrill a bit.

2. That a great idea. Like collecting cards I like those. :classic_happy: Gwent is a MUST HAVE for me in the witcher games. Make it either 4 or 12 pages per book.

... thinking about it... 4 is too easy for my taste. Make it 12 :classic_wink:

3. If I got the concept correct, and if a book has 12 pages, I'd say 6 pages with pictures. ? 4 would be a minimum if you can't grep enough pictures to form consistent sets.

I realized people probably aren't checking for new blogs and even if so, might miss my post so I thought I'd better try and ping the people I could remember having interest.

10% could work, but if you want 12 pages to make a book, you're gonna have a hard time making it, unless you kill a heck of a lot of bandits.

Each "book" will need a recipe and it will have a set combination of pages required. If I want to provide the same book with 4-5 different combos, that's 5 diff recipes to make.  Not terribly hard but adds complexity.  Probably what I would do for some things though.

If there was a reward beyond "Hey, Porn!" I would not need to include all of the pictures on the Notes in the Book they create. What I have right now are just collections of pictures without associated story or anything else. They're just interesting loot. Another potential problem is the pictures usable on Notes can be larger than Book images, so I'd either need 2 versions of each picture or just use the smaller book sizes on the Notes.  Also works just fine though you'd lose a little on some pics.

Lot of bandits you say? Oh, I see. Yes. That sounds very dangerous and frightening.

Spoiler

Me: "Ehhmmm, no Sir. No, we just came passing by.  When we came up the hill, we saw him having a rest here at the side of the road and didn't want to disturb him."

Me: "Ciri, have you seen anybody else?"

Ciri: "Well, no! It  seems he was resting here for a few hours."

Legionary: "Didn't you notice that the corpse is still warm?"

Me: *surprised* "Really? And that means... he could have been saved? Erm... Sir, unfortunately we have no skill about such valuable medical stuff. Unlike you brave soldiers. We are just two harmless young girls, travellers on our long way to Solstheim."

Ciri: "Such a terrible loss of life."

Not so much that bandits are dangerous, but tedious.

I'm also thinking about changing where I put my loot lists for my notes and books, as Hunters are not getting the stuff I added for them. Not sure if I'm looking at the wrong base hunter template and so I used the wrong leveled list, or something else is going on.

There are Loot Poor and Loot Rich lists, which would include normal city NPCs as well as bandits, hunters and such, and that might make for a better way to handle things. Adding stuff to chests, dressers and other places would spread the love around... and not in a messy, sticky, requires-cleanup kinda way.

I did mess with some placed books (there is a wierd leveled-item object for books) so you'll see some of mine on shelves, tables and such. Hope it doesn't count as a dirty edit to some cells. You have to edit the placed object though, and can't just add them to a list it uses so there is a lot more work involved in putting stuff on shelves.

Here's another question regarding the leveled loot lists:

Should I try to separate stuff by content and genre or just let anyone have any kind of porn-loot?

Currently I have some stuff that is just carried by bandits and some of that is in general loot, thalmor/altmer themed stuff for the justicars, warlocky stuff including daedra-ish stuff for the wizard types and vampire themed stuff for the blood drinkers.
