Red Eagle's Rite
In my "add pictures to books" project I've done a little editing for personal taste in some books, but thought I'd post this idea for the (potential) entertainment or criticism of others.
Here's the original Red Eagle's Rite text
QuoteHaving bathed the blade in human blood, present it at Rebel's Cairn together with your sacrifice and intone:
Lord Red Eagle, ancient one, first and foremost among Reachmen, heed the call of your people! Still we fight for freedom! Still our blades are dark with blood! Turn your gaze upon us, and grant us your blessing anew!
I renew the ancient covenant: When at last our lands are free, we shall return, your sword of victory in hand. Then arise, O great one, from your honored tomb! Reclaim thy stolen throne! Rule over us, High Lord of the Reach, forevermore!
and here's my first draft version
QuoteSelect with care your aspirant bride, for Red Eagle desires strongly certain things.
First, the maiden should be unbroken and pure of body, reserved first for him though she make take other lovers after bearing his sons. She should witness pleasure by many and know her own body well, being well prepared for the rite and not afraid of marriage consumation mysteries.
Second, the bride to be should be a warrior maid, well trained in the arts of war. Blade, spell or bow matter not, as long as she has tasted blood.
Third, she should be respected by her peers and mentors, not shrill nor shrewish. Red Eagle has no need for overweaning pride but only confidence in skill.
Prepare the blade of Red Eagle by anointing it with the oils and essences of your chosen aspirant bride. Men and women can help arouse her but take care that their own fluids do not mingle with hers. Thus mouths should not be used and the helpers should not gratify themselves during the ceremony lest Red Eagle sense their essence and find the bride unworthy.Once the blade is well coated and while the bride aspirant is still fully aroused, proceed into the ritual chamber.
The bride aspirant should take the blade from the ceremonial escorts and place it on the burial cairn. She should then kneel in front of the cairn while the escorts intone the ritual call:
Red Eagle, Red Eagle
Lord of Us Reachmen
We present your bride
Find her worthy and sire your children
That we may grow stronger honor your name!
Should Red Eagle find your candidate worthy he will rise and take his bride. If the timing is proper she will conceive and bear sons for our Reach Lord. The timing of the courses of the bride aspirant are thus important but may change depending on the time of year.
When the sons of Red Eagle come of age, test their hearts. If they have been properly prepared they will be worthy of the Briarheart blessing. Thus our army will grow ever stronger and one day we may return Red Eagle to his kingdom.
Now, I don't know what sort of blessing you would get by killing a bunch of people and taking your blood bathed blade and a sacrifice of some kind (some unkilled victim, food, money, gems?) to his tomb. Since he isn't coming back as a result of this rite, maybe he's just granting more combat prowess if you prove yourself worthy by winning fights.
Whatever that blessing, in my quest to sexify Skyrim where I can get away with it, I came up with an alternate rite. While writing that up, an idea on how Briarhearts might be selected developed and this is the initial result. On some cycle, the various tribes would pick a female that they think is worthy and present her at the tomb. Red Eagle temporarily rises from the dead, boinks the girl and gets her pregnant, then goes back to sleep until the next one is presented. If she's not worth his time, he just doesn't bother getting up and everyone's disappointed they didn't get to see a supernatural sex show, plus they're out a chance to make more super warriors.
I'm thinking that others might prove themselves worth of Briarhearting, but Red Eagle's progeny would be stronger, faster and more inspiring, unless they let ego take over and make it all about Super Me and not The People, in which case bad, daedric curses might fall on them and those responsible for leading them astray or letting them cause trouble. Or Not. I don't know.
