Part One
The rumbling sound from above ceased, and silence once more filled the dank, damp, dimly lit prison. However its occupant was restless. Rising from her usual seated position, Lucari began to pace back in forth rattling her cages as she did. The smell of new blood was in the air and it was giving her a rush.
Just when she thought she could no longer stand it, she felt a presence in the room but was immediately disheartened. âJust⌠cattleâŚâ She was sick of their blood. Over theses last few weeks sheâd gotten bored of their taste. She wanted something fresh, something⌠familiar. As always when she began to get such a longing, images of a random Redguard female flashed in her head. The woman was beautiful and Lucari could feel her body get weak at the sight of her, but at the same time⌠âI wish⌠to feedâŚâ
The cattle opened the door to Lucariâs cage and walked toward the exit, an odd move for it to make. Tilting her head to the side, Lucari slowly followed her as they headed toward the main hall.
As soon as they arrived in the main hall, Lucari froze. She could sense three other presences in the hall and their being here confused her greatly. First was her make⌠her Mistress who would never take the time to meet with her unless it was to degrade her even further. Then she could make out Molag Balâs Champion but something was off about her, she seemed⌠mortal. Although abnormal these two werenât out of place. This third presence howeverâŚ
Lucariâs eyes widened and she broke into a run. (Sheâs here!) There was no basis that this was going to be her mystery Redguard woman, and even when she got close enough to see that it was indeed a Redguard woman there was still the possibility that this wasnât her. But Lucari knew. Her heart was racing like it had before she was forced to come here when she was traveling with Carciel andâ
âStop right there!â
Lucari came to an immediate at her Mistressâs side at her command. The suddenness of it all made both Lucari and the Redguard blink. (Have I⌠been trained?)
âSee Redguard? Iâve kept my word.â
ââŚHalfling,â Lucari said unconsciously. The look her Mistress gave her made Lucari, if she could, go even paler.
Â
âIâll let that goâŚâ She smiled towards the Halfling. âBecause we have a guest. Now then, what is it that you really want, Redguard?â
The Halfling rolled her eyes. âI told you Iâm here for Lucari. Stop wasting my time and let her come with me or Iâll make you.â
A chill went down Lucariâs spine that made realize that this Halfing was going to do her Mistress harm, and as much as she despised her, Lucari had been more or less programmed to do everything in her power to prevent that from happening. She stepped in front of her Mistress and glared at their guest. âDanâŚgerousâŚâ she said in a low growl.
âL-Lucari? Whatâs gotten into you? Itâs me. Itâs Niyleenââ
Suddenly the world around her blurred and images of Niyleen Flame-Child rushed before her eyes. Happiness, trust, longing, betrayal, these emotions and more began to fill her up until only specific images of her began to appear. Thief, liar, betrayer! Kill her⌠Kill the Halfling!
Part Two
Niyleen grew furious at Lucariâs screams. Pointing her weapon at Teresa she said, âWhat in Oblivion did you do to her?â
âMe?â the vampire said coyly. âIâve done nothing at all.â
âLies!â Niyleen pointed at Lucari who was still howling in pain. âDamn you vampire!â She stepped toward her. âIâm going to rip your head from yourââ
âAh-ah-ah!â Teresa said waving her finger. âItâd be in your best interest if you didnât move from that spot.â
Â
âOr else what? Youâre gonna kill me? Iâll send you to the afterlife fiââ
Without warning Lucari jumped on Niyleen and pinned her to the ground. The suddenness of it made Niyleen let out a yelp. âL-L-Lucari!?! What are youâŚâ she stopped her sentence short as she saw the frenzied look in her comradeâs eyes, the anxiousness in her breathing, the hunger dripping from her lips. Niyleen had seen this before. Her words werenât going to get through to her now, Lucari had gone feral.
âDamn,â Teresa said coming over to the pair. âThis is NOT what I expected. I knew sheâd become hostile towards you because of your threats, but going all the way back to feral? And NOT channeling that hatred towards me? This couldnât have gone better.â She kicked Niyleenâs sword away and smiled at her again. âLook, this would make for a boring ending, both you and I know this, but at the same time I wouldnât be adverse to kick starting a new cycle here and now. What would that be? The fifth?â
âFifâwhy are you toying with me,â Niyleen said with an annoyed look on her face. âJust end this if youâre going toââ
For the love ofâdo you remember nothing! Screw that false bravado! Do you NOT remember the Secondâs words?
(What is she talking about?) The Second had said many things, but nothing of note came to mind.
âWhy so silent all of a sudden?â Teresa ribbed. âHaving second thoughts?â Niyleenâs silence made this all the more enjoyable for the vampire. âI havenât eaten in a while, and blood such as yours would definitely sate my appetite.â
Niyleen sucked her teeth. âSo you creatures do indeed enjoy playing with a meal. I knew you were baser than your clothing lets on.â
Teresa glared at the Halfling and snapped her fingers. At once Lucari released Niyleen and stood by her Mistressâs side. âA meal? Youâre just meat that canât be sampled just yet. An unattainable appetizer is more like it.â
Niyleen got to her feet and noticed how Lucariâs eyes never left her. âWhat is this? What game are you playing?â
Teresa grinned. âItâs not a game, just a challenge. Unlike Boethiah and Meridiaââ
âWhatâs Meridia have to do with any of this?â
Â
Teresa rolled her eyes and ignored her. âMolag Balâs Champion will not stoop to ambushing you. Weâve more class than that.â Niyleen rolled her eyes, but Teresa continued, âSeeing as youâve made a mess of that half-assed Champion,â she said pointing to Sevetia. âI believe that itâs time for my Lord to receive a new Champion. One who is stronger, better, faster. One who is one of his own.â
âNiyleen laughed. âWho? You? I can take you easy asââ
âAs always you believe that it is I who you will take on. I know my Lordâs will and will not go against it. And as always you will go against someone who is important to you.â Teresaâs grin widened as she saw Niyleenâs face reflect her realization. âOnce you faced your most trusted comrade, once it was your best friend, and once it was your sister. Now, it will be the woman you have feelings for. Rejoice as once again youâŚâ Teresa paused and looked upwards as if looking for something. âY-yeah, I⌠I apologize, my Lord. Forgive me for my impertinence. NowâŚâ She returned her attention to Niyleen. âIâll give you a month. It would be in your best interests to say your goodbyes within that time.â And with a flick of her wrists, Teresa banished Niyleen from the castle.
Â
âFUCK!â Niyleen shouted as she banged on the entrance that she knew would be forever shut to her. (This isnât what I wanted! This isnâtâ)
Hi thesk vok! Hi thesk vok volzah! The Second told you ONE thing to remember, one thing NOT to do and you go ahead and screw everything up.
Â
Niyleen punched the door, but couldnât put any strength behind it. Lucari was gone, sheâd failed, and now in a monthâs time the two of them were to fight to the death. âI canât do thisâŚâ
Â
Nii dreh ni trun. Bo hofkiin! Go back to that damn lair! Donât tell me you forgot Teresaâs words so soon?
Niyleen thought back and suddenly it came to her. âItâs not a game, just a challenge. Unlike Boethiah and Meridiaââ Niyleen bit her lips and wiped her eyes. Now wasnât the time to lament over what she couldnât change, it was time to prevent anything else from happening to the ones she loved. And so after taking a minute to gather herself, Niyleen rushed off towards Whiterun.
