The Making of... Part 1

Ahoy!

Welcome to Wicked Work, a blog where I can post on my upcoming film projects. I've never thought about doing a "making of" blog but why not?

You can find my previous movies on Naughty Machinima. My Naughty Machinima videos are linked in my LL signature. EDIT: I realize my signature doesn't show up on here... links added.

Why do I make Sims movies? Just because, really, but I like for people to actually watch them besides, you know, myself. A lot of people tend to think they're good so I've released them out into the world with a little anchor here on LoversLab.

My current project is more strenuous that my previous videos. I normally make my own sets (read lots) within either custom worlds or EA worlds depending on the theme. For this current project my friend Ein actually built a custom world for me--applause for him. We worked together on how it should look, I helped paint it. My technique is so amateur it hurts but he really did a good job on it for me since it's his first time out of the gate.

I hate to ruin the surprise of my films -- I like the viewer to get the full experience without spoilers so all pictures are sneak peeks.

Characters

The characters for this movie were created by a few friends on here: MaryJane, Maraas, and Elf Prince. They really came through for me! With a minor tweak here and there they've surpassed my expectations. Here are a few pictures of them before and after.

Set Design

Once I solidify my idea, I write down little details like where it will be shot, time period (modern, medieval, timeless, etc.), the cultural theme if any (Egyptian, English, Fantasy, Modern, Gothic, etc.), the characters, and of course the story I'm trying to convey in this medium. As I mentioned above, I hate ruining the surprise for viewers so I won't go into too many details but I want to share the process so you know just how much time and effort goes into these little films lol.

Because the world Ein built was completely empty, I've had to build the entire thing as if I was creating a custom world for download. I imported a lot of lots and sims from other worlds for population purposes. I've also downloaded some custom lots with the sole purpose of editing them to suit my needs and for those lots I need that I can't find, I've built them myself.

Here is a sneak peak of one part of the map.

What's truly surprising about this is, I never intended to do all of this work. I'm almost ashamed to admit it. In my previous films I've spent anywhere from 2 days to a week building, filming, and editing but with this one I haven't started filming yet because I want the details to be absolutely perfect. What can I say? I'm a sucker for punishment... but how else will I totally submerge your senses in this vision?

I just finished the above earlier this evening and I'm taking a break for the night/day. Later, I will finally be able to move on to the next part of the design phase. I have a few more Sims to make and then, maybe, finally, I'll be ready to start shooting the film.

I can't wait for you all to see it.

Cheers,

~L
