Open Skies Trading Post thoughts.

Storms of Superior

I published this entry when I was absolutely exhausted. After getting a lot of sleep, I woke up realizing that there would be at least twice as much work to send NPCs on quests rather than set up quests for the player to complete. Good thing for sleep.

Open Skies Trading Post is one of my pet projects that hasn't been worked on in over a year. Tonight I came to the realization that, instead of building complicated quests for everything, the more mundane things may be able to be handled by NPCs, much in the way that World of Warcraft has garrison missions that are handled by NPCs.

I'll try to add more to this later. This may be brilliant, or is may be another dead end.

Good luck. If I may: what is a garrison mission? I can't make it up.

The latest content expansion of World of Warcraft attempts to capture the feel of the old Warcraft games by requiring the player to set up a garrison. From these garrisons, NPC followers are sent on missions in the same manner that the player plays quests.

Ah, I see. Stopped playing WoW just before the furry invasion - feels like a decade ago. Thanks for the info.

Nevertheless: so you want to create some sort of macro-management for the NPCs? Because all those smartphone games where you have to manage a keep and collect every ressource yourself.. that's bollocks.

Better be in a managing position to let the NPCs do the simpleton work. If I understand you correctly.
