The Convergence

Within a majority of races, some kind of magic knowledge and/or institution is known. The Equines are no exception. Known as the Convergence, it features two effective schools, each catering to different forms of magic. The Order of the Dawn focuses on restorative and defensive magic, while the Order of the Dusk teaches more destructive forms, as well as Necromancy. As a whole, the group does not bar entry to any, allowing any and all to join. Founded by a noble bloodline with little to no ties to the Equines' Royal family, though it was later endorsed by them, and currently, the Royal family has seen a large number join, and become well known in their aptitude for magic.

The highest rank one can achieve within each Order is a Patriarch or Matriarch, but these titles depend on those who hold them. Gaining either of said ranks is not a matter of linage, gender, etc - instead, it is a matter of skill, and aptitude in magic and occasionally, history. A basic example, is that in either Order, a Patriarch can name a successor, but said member of the Convergence would still need to prove their skill and knowledge. The same goes for a Matriarch.

The top seat within the Convergence has no official title, though it is roughly equivalent to the title of Arch-Mage in other institutions teaching magic.

As of the 4E, 190, it is Auro Lumens, former Patriarch of the Order of the Dusk, who leads the Convergence. His wife, a member of the Order of the Dawn, convinced him to peruse this path, and by the next year, they have their first child.

The highest in the families of this era, Amelia Solaris, and Aida Lunaris, are both among the highest ranked Mages of each Order - however, being among the Royal Family, they perhaps have the option to prove their skill and take the top rank in the Convergence, but as normally occurs, both chose not to challenge Auro or his predecessor. This is part of royal tradition, as few among the twin bloodlines have taken the top seat, but it is not a restriction placed upon them, only an informal tradition.
