More Cyberpunk

No still not posting any screenshots from Cyberpunk and thankfully it won't just be about that game in this entry since I've recently been playing Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of the duelist.

So first things first yugioh, I've not played since I was unemployed (so about 6ish years) when I used a site called Dueling Network in order to play online (it no longer exists unfortunately, Konami sent them a cease and desist order) and I had actually forgotten how much I enjoy playing the game, it's fairly simplistic (at least in comparison to Magic the Gathering) but I've been finding it fairly engaging even if it is just against the AI and it's quite cathartic to stomp the anime character's decks and I always found the actual deck building to be quite fun. It was somewhat frustrating to not have every card available at my fingertips to begin with and the RNG has a bad habit of fucking me (in both card pack pulls, don't worry they're free you just need to earn currency from actually playing to buy them, and with my draws and opening hands in actual games) but there's something nice (I can't think of a better word right now) about starting with the same shitty cards everyone starts with and slowly building your collection and building better and better decks. I've not tried the online mode yet and really have no intention to, I know what some people are like when it comes to playing yugioh online and I'm perfectly happy walloping the AI especially when you can mod the game to add more duels (and use the uncensored Japanese cards.)

Anyway Cyberpunk is in the spoiler below, there WILL be story spoilers you have been warned

So this is just going to be a bit of an addendum to my "review" from the last entry (basically the stuff I forgot) and how I personally would go about fixing the story.

So first off the things I forgot to mention, there's only two so it's not a big deal (well at least for one of them) the first ( and most minor) thing is that male V sounds like on of the raiders from Fallout 3 (just a bit gravellier) and due to how much I played that game (Fallout not Cyberpunk)I can't really get over it. As for the other thing it's actually a bit of dissonant storytelling towards the end of the game.

So basically what happens is the relic starts acting up just as you finish talking to Hinako and hitting the point of no return and you lose consciousness and wake up at Vik Vector's clinic after having apparently walked all the way there from where you were and turfed his patient at the time out of the ripperdoc chair (it was probably Johnny) and here's where the dissonance kicks in, for the entire game you've been trying to find a way to separate you from Johnny and Vik (I assume) knows this but at this point he starts laying into you about how you've seemingly not been doing everything you can to fix things and while V probably did need a boot up their arse having it come from Vik who is a doctor is just not good in my opinion especially when Vik has done everything he can to help you. I have no issue with another NPC laying into the main character about being a twat but having it come from a character that has pretty much come across as a sympathetic voice really does not seem right.

Anyway as to how I would go about "fixing" Cyberpunk's story. As I mentioned in my actual review I wouldn't kill off Dex and Jackie so soon into the story I'd have them stick around for a lot longer than they did additionally, if the rumours are to be believed, I think a simple rags to riches story would be a good one for V. Rather than having V effectively be a playable side character (something I fucking HATE in games) make the game about their story, their rise in the ranks of Night City's elites and rather than being directly involved with Arasaka make V a third party who gets caught up in the Arasaka civil war, this would give branching paths do you join Yorinobu's faction or Hinako's? for example maybe even have each origin have different reactions to the civil war and being caught up in it for example the corpo, having got out of the rat race, not really wanting to get involved and valuing their newfound freedom or the nomad wanting to leave Night City by the end and return to the freedom enjoyed by the nomads (maybe by joining the Aldecaldos, the nomad clan you meet and aid in the games actual story) or the street kid just wanting to become the top mercenary in night city. As for Johnny, rather than having him taking of V's body have him appear in someone else's (one that coincidentally looks like Keanu Reeves) to aid you and maybe provide a third faction in the civil war.

So yeah that's my thoughts on what would improve the story and even make good on the promises of branching decisions that are more than a few lines of dialogue or a different cutscene. Obviously Johnny has a presence (I actually don't think there's anything wrong with having him in the game to begin with but he ended up being the main character of the story as opposed to V, y'know our FUCKING CHARACTER) but nowhere near as central as he does in what we actually got, in fact if you go down his route I don't think his screen time would actually be reduced. It would also give the game far more replayability (seriously 3 prologues and 3 routes with changes to each based on the prologue chosen means you would need NINE separate playthoughs to see everything.) Additionally rather than just dropping you back to your last checkpoint before the point of no return I'd have either a playable epilogue or a save state with your save data in it for a NG+.

Also two images of my FFXIV characters in the spoiler below (including one of them having some special alone time.)
