EFF - followers don't stay essential

Recommended Posts

I turn my followers "Essential" in-game with EFF, but some of them still frequently die from friendly fire.

Mostly happens with ladies from the various Bijin mods, so right now i only suspect that EFF can't change the status properly on modded followers.

I've tested it with my own loadorder and it seems to work for me.

Although the option I'm using reads as "vulnerable" (when translated to english), which isn't very intuitive.

(used the commands "isessential" and "isprotected" to check the flags after using the option)

Another thing I can think of:

SkyTweak uses some kind of black magic to make essential NPCs killable, although it also enabled common bandits to kill off my protected followers as well...

Instead I've now installed the mod Essentials Are Protected - SKSE Plugin, which changes the flags of newly spawned NPCs (no esp-file!).

I'm not familiar with several of your mods, so maybe one does something similar and dynamically changes those flags using scripts.

I'd also check if any of your mods overwrite EFF's scripts.

Well "Essential" means that they should not be able to die, ever. "Protected" means that only the player can kill them, when they are kneeling down at 0 HP.

So the mod you linked only makes NPCs killable that otherwise are not (like Delphine etc).

I also acquired Gregor yesterday, unmodded vanilla and he also died from a couple of Fire Rune blasts. So the Bijin edits are not the problem.

PS - i also just tested ingame, using the EFF function does not seem to apply the Essential flag to begin with. So it's not likely that another mod secretly changes this back. Other commands like "Residence" do work fine though.

IIRC the EFF scripts are standalone, according to the MO conflict report there is nothing overwriting anything.

Will test now with manually using the setessential command and see if it sticks.
