Asrienda Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Is there any way to do this regarding faction, perks, starting equipment, story/dialogue modification, and player race?

While I don't know if it makes you a true synth race or not Start Me Up - Alternate Start and Dialogue Overhaul has an option to start as an Escaped Synth (not allied with faction).
Asrienda Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Hm, I guess that's one way to do it. Would a synth have different stats/perks/resistances than a regular human? They're basically human right?
ercramer69 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Well I chose that option a couple of times in testing, I remember depending on what options you chose your equipment loadout went from just a synth uniform to armed and armored to the teeth, but I don't remember if there were any resistance bonuses or perks. But the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. you set up like normal.
AWP3RATOR Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Queue the X-Files music.... How do you know your're NOT a synth already? You could just console yourself the synth component and imagine? That being said, i think Start Me Up is the way to go - but I don't think it adds to factions so synths are non-hostile, as those encounters are largely scripted for quest purposes.

Does it change dialogue?
AWP3RATOR Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I haven't done a full playthrough with it yet - but I've used it fairly extensively for testing mods. In Sanctuary, when choosing a set-up that doesn't include being from Vault 111 and the parent looking for child - Codsworth's conversation still happens, but cleverly edits the dialogue bits out about knowing him "where is sir and Shaun?" etc. The mod author says there are over 800 dialogue/quest edits - and it seems to be very well done. Check it out here. It would be interesting to play through with this, not as the parent, and see how the Insitutionalized quest series has been change. The subplot to that whole part of the story is "things aren't what they seem - with regard to Shaun". I assume Father will just be the head of the Institute, but the parts about parent to child would be edited out.
Asrienda Posted January 19, 2018 Author Posted January 19, 2018 It looks like it doesn't ally you with the institute. Is that possible?
AWP3RATOR Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I just looked through the start scenarios and there does not appear to be one for an institute operative either on the surface inside the CIT. In reading through comments regarding that on the Start Me Up support forum, it looks like there are issues with adding the player to that/those faction(s) before the game is ready - meaning before pre-requisite quests and variables have been met. This is a bit saddening - because your idea is awesome. You could add yourself to the institute factions through console and see how it goes though.... but user beware on that, it can break things later.
AWP3RATOR Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I just saw this too: Factionless Institute - allows access to the institute without meeting any requirements.
