elecp Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Hi everyone I found this toutorial here and I start myself at editing meshes. But I got a problem (see screenshot) at part 3, when I click on "Editable Mesh". What shall I do? Can I ignore this, or have I installed something wrong? Thx for your help in advance greeding elecp p.s. sorry if my english is bad, it's not my native language
Chupy Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Just check the box "Do not show this message again" and click Yes. This is just a warning, no problems there. You can combine this tutorial http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19249 by Nightasy, gives you extra information, and even if the tutorial is used on the UNP, these steps can be used for CHSBHS too ps. It is a common thing when you want to just move a little vertices around, you don't need to make a new Skin for the mesh.
Monsto Brukes Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 sorry man, it's not JUST a warning. select the mesh in the work window. on the right you have the modifier list, it says "Skin" then "Editable Mesh". That list is IN ORDER FROM BOTTOM TO TOP. Meaning, it started with an "Editable Mesh" and then a "Skin" modifier was applied. It is true that what the tutorial is telling you to do probably won't matter. But the order of that list matters. And it is possible that changes you make to the "Editable Mesh" can change the "Skin" modifier giving you an unexpected end result. With only 1 modifier, it's unlikely that it matters and you probably don't have to worry about it. But as you get better with max and that list grows, going way back like that can absolutely have unintended consequences. You could avoid that message by looking at the dropdown Modifier List and choosing "Edit Mesh". This will leave the original mesh and Skin" modifier data intact. This is how the modifier list works. But you're better off following the instructions of the tutorial. And also view the Nightasy tutorials. They're a little slow sometimes but they're absolutely worth watching for a max newbie.
Chupy Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 With only 1 modifier' date=' it's unlikely that it matters and you probably don't have to worry about it. [/quote'] True, but first you try to skip the Skin modifier and try in Editable Mesh to move vertices around and if no consequences occur, you got lucky, but if they do, then you delete the Skin modifier and do Skinning again (manually or Skin Wrap + manually), you won't lose anything by doing that. But if you first deleted the skin modifier without checking, maybe you lost some time, because it would work. Maybe I should have been more clear and said that this works only for Skyrim, maybe other tes/fo too. If you convert armors from one body to another, you won't see a long list of modifiers.
