Starting a New game, Modding after Dragon scene?

As the title says, I was wondering if it's safe to get to the location where you are cut free of your binds, then load your script heavy mods? I decided to do a fresh install and having everything running on starting a new game is causing a rather odd bug!

Firstly I am able to go 3rd person, and even if I touch nothing I fall out of the cart haha, I've read this can be due to heavy scripts at the start. So I was wondering is it safe to get into the fist cell where you are cut free then add the mods? I know some mods say "prefer a new game"? Any thoughts?

Well that sucks.. A little too much mead or that wacky tabacky?

get rid of all the hkx files, skeletons and meshes, anims, sexlab, and FNIS.. all that shit. Keep your other mods. Then re-bake em in the right order yeah?

I keep a copy and paste backup.. makes life easier when someones mod screws up your shit without warning you.

Hah yeah the dude must have, some strong shit though to make him go corporeal for a short while! I disabled a ton of mods and it worked fine, most of the script heavy ones, the real question I'd like answered is that if it's ok to reinstall them once you can play freely or if a lot of big ones i.e SD+ ect "need" a new game.

thats what i used to do once i was free of my binds i used to install the body mods, create my character properly and install everything (not all at once though, couple at a time, save exit and repeat) i didnt leave the room until everything was set up lol

i just installed alternative start live another life mod (much simpler)

So it is possible to do that then? All the mods should still start properly even if they "require a new game"? Not that I've seen a mod that says that in a while!

Most people who are script heavy just go with https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9557/? Alternate Start.

It starts you in a holding cell and lets you set everything up without worrying about intro cutscene.

You can still go through the cutscene if you like after you are set up... or just bypass it with camping in the woods start, then backtrack into the cave to get Ralof or Hadvar.

Thanks for the replies, Doesn't a lot of Alternate start mods have some major issues though? And make things even more unstable? I remember seeing a lot of posts around while reading through other mod types of compatibility issues and more?

Any mod that you add to the game can cause issues... but Alternate Start Live another Life is pretty much ok to use in and of itself.   It's when things start stacking up too high that cause papyrus to collapse.  Alternate Start only sets up the starting sequence you desire, so it should not effect your game in the long run by adding persistent scripts that keep firing off.

The benefits of using it far outweigh any negative impact on your initial startup and is pretty much the more desired tool when having to repeatedly restart to resolve issues that may arise from the mods you add.   Any problems people experience may arise from the fact that they do not understand what ASLAL does.  If you do experience issues when using ASLAL (Alternate start live another life) it is usually indicative of deeper problems in your setup that are best resolved now than 10 hours into your gameplay.

I would highly recommend it for troubleshooting.   Alternatively, if you simply want to test your mods out without going through a playthrough, you can also load up all your mods using the console command COC QASMOKE from the load screen at the start.  But it is not recommended to use this as a setup for your gameplay start... it is just for testing.

Generally any mods that says it requires a new game means that it isn't possible to update from the last version to the latest version due to changes made. If you have never had the mod installed before you can usually* install it at any time.

* Any mods that make changes to Skyrim's quests and such should only be installed when starting a new game. Mods such as USLEEP make a lot of changes to general things and any properties or aliases changed after a game has started are likely not going to update when the mod is installed. These types of mods should also only be updated at the start of a new game as well as you never know what changes are in the update and if some changes will not work correctly.
