is there a way to use Mikoto and Lings?

Hi, I have another stupid/noobish question

I have been using Lings and although it is great, I was thinking of using Mikoto's Beauty pack mainly because it looks like it has a wider selection of hairs.

My question is basically, is there a way to use both at the same time or at least switch around which pack I want to use for different games? Some saved games require Lings while others want to use Mikoto's and if I don't use what they require well obviously they don't look as good =/

Or if I replace Ling's with Mikoto, is there something I should do or should know before I just drag and drop the downloaded Mikoto file in my data folder?

Thanks!

I coulda swore I made few merged hair esm/esp like 5-6 months ago for someone that was for a couple of mikoto's/lings and Mailamea's hair packs, maybe it was just mia's and lings. If it's still there, it'll be in the tech thread in the general forum I think. But well, I think you can do it with fnvedit by merging the esm's into an esp, then creating a new master though I've never tried. Though someone with more experience on that end could probably tell you more.

I know you can do it via the GECK, it's slow, tedious and all that. But it does give you plenty of time to learn how to learn your way around.

Sure you can use them both but you will have conflicts! As Mashi said you are going to have to figure out a way to merge them together to fix things. The problem is both mods are going to compete for things and depending on what plugin you are using that require one or the other you may get into all sorts of trouble.

I recommend that you pick one or the other. Say you pick Mikoto's and something requires lings's. Just edit that plugin to use Mikoto's instead of lings. Many times you can find patches that are already made if you look around.

Best of luck to you.

Merging Lings and Mikotos isn't as difficult as it sounds. You will definitely have to decide which one should take precedence on the races though. Mikoto merges the mouth all into one nif and uses empty nifs for the teeth but uses the tongue slot to provide eyelashes. Lings uses the default vanilla nifs for the head parts. Mikoto has slightly more hairs and slightly more eyes than Lings. The way I merged them was by creating a blank esp called Merged_Races.esp and copying all of Mikoto to it as Overrides. I then drag and dropped all the eyes and hair from Lings into the Merged_Races race records so that my Mikoto races now had access to the Lings eyes and hair. Note I do NOT recommend this approach as it's really time consuming. The utility called FNVPlugin will do the job MUCH faster. The advantage of having a merged races plugin is that not only do I have Lings and Mikoto merged in it, I also have Desert Succubus, Geonox, Cazy Hair, Foxy Fiends, NVR2, and a ton of presets also in the esp all merged together. The disadvantage of this approach is that a merged esp is more difficult to work with in the GECK since you'll have to master it, edit in the GECK, then demaster it. You'll also have to load every mod after your merged esp that references Lings or Mikoto unless you keep the Lings and Mikoto esms in your load order.

wow, that sounds complicated...........do you think you could post that up here or is that merged file specifically curtailed to your game (ie it wouldnt work on other people's FalloutNV games)? B/c that would be ideal, but thanks for the responses!

No, I'm sorry, but I don't upload content without permission and my merged plugin is tailored to my installation.

I will, however, give you some helpful links so you can do it yourself.
