nehaberlan Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Hi, After installing mods via NMM, I checked the files. Their file types seem as .symlink and their file size are zero. I reinstalled them again. I had the same result. I uninstalled/installed NMM the last version again. Same result. I only changed the mods location from C Drive to D Drive. The game is in C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\ folder. I use DynDOLOD. I've not had this problem before. When I download the mods, everything seems OK in NMM. Actually, NMM doesn't import the files in the Skyrim. I have the same problem for the mods that I download from Nexus. If you can help me anyway, I'll really appreciate. Sincerely Yours, I'm sending you an example:
Majin Buu Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 What version of NMM are you using? The most recent version? If I remember right the most recent development of NMM they are using virtual files kinda like how Mod Organizer does. Now the exact same way. The symlink files are supposed to point to where the actual file is and use there without actually installing everything to your skyrim folder. THats what I heard though, dunno how accurate that is.

The version of NMM is 0.63.14. There is Virtual Install folder/option. Maybe, I should use an older version of NMM that has no Virtual Install. Do you have any suggestion? If you suggest to use a previous version, where can I find it?
Majin Buu Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Sorry I wouldn't know. I use Mod Organizer. Virtual file system works really well in that.
nehaberlan Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 Sorry I wouldn't know. I use Mod Organizer. Virtual file system works really well in that. Thank you btw. I tried Mod Organizer several times. It was very confusing for me. At least, I would like to know if NMM works correctly or not.
Veniat Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Symlinks are just the extension for Symbolic Links, any application should view those as pretty much identical to the actual files; they just point to the true file location and directories transparently. If you're using Nexus Mod Manager and recent Mod Organiser versions than it's expected behaviour. You don't have to worry since it's how it handles file overrides without overwriting, moving, or changing your original files. If you're having problems loading the mods it's possible that you moved the referenced directories without letting whatever application you used to install your mods update the symbolic links. You'd just need to reinstall your mods so NMM or MO can recreate the links though I think it does that anyway when you run NMM. The file size is zero because it's not technically a file, just a pointer in the filesystem.

If I'm working on a mod by using the Creation Kit, what would be happen? Would NMM prefer to move them in the VirtualInstall folder, or would keep them in the original Skyrim folder?
Veniat Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 I'm not sure sure to be honest, I haven't modded Skyrim in a long while. If it's all done via symbolic links though than nothing should change, it'd be exactly the same as opening it normally.

LazyBoot Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Thanks for the definition of Symlinks. If I'm working on a mod by using the Creation Kit, what would be happen? Would NMM prefer to move them in the VirtualInstall folder, or would keep them in the original Skyrim folder? Most likely any file that gets overwritten by ck will update in the virtualinstall folder, but any new file will be in the normal skyrim folder. Unless the ck deletes and writes a new one instead of doing a propper overwrite, in those cases I think the link will be removed and replaced, and the original file will stay in the virtualinstall folder. (Unless symlinks work differently in windows compared to what I'm used to)

(Unless symlinks work differently in windows compared to what I'm used to) Two days ago, I switched to an older version of NMM v. 0.55.4, which has no "virtual install" folder. So, everything seems OK, for now, at least. I have to check if there are any missing files from the mod that I'm working on. Fortunately, I had back-ups. I can recover missing files. I tired Mod Organizer before. I couldn't figure it out, however I watched its tutorials over and over again. It was very confusing for me. Maybe someday, somehow, someone creates a LoversLab Mod Manager. LLMM... Thank You for Your Support...
