ther1pper Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I think i need a better wireless adapter because my computer keeps disconnecting. Anyone know any good adapters that can use 1GB internet without trouble. samhain6 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I really like this wireless adapter and while I haven't used it with gigabit internet it's been fast and reliable on my local network: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8VMFf7/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac68 Keep in mind it's an 802.11ac card so it'll see the best performance when paired with an 802.11ac router. Prior to any upgrades though, I'm assuming you've already ruled out the obvious: -Verifying if the internet itself is going down vs. losing connection to your wireless router / access point -Verifying if the issue affects other wireless computers / phones / devices using the same network or just your system's wireless -Reloading the latest wireless card driver -Ensuring the router has the latest firmware -Relocating the router away from any sources of interference and closer and higher if possible -Trying different channels on the router (1-11 in US or possibly higher abroad) and bands (2.4 / 5 GHz) to rule out interference with neighboring networks -Trying single channel vs. dual bonded channels -Using WPA2 and not WPA or WEP encryption
zzz72w3r Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 I have found upgrading from 802.11ac helped a little with connectivity, mainly because I am able to get some devices to 5Ghz but the biggest benefit is speed over b/g/n. You need 802.11ac on both ends. Mind you that for trouble "free" experience you really need wired connections.
