Parmadillo Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Hello, I'm having a problem in oblivion, every few seconds it seems to studder for a second, like it skips a few frames, and the game runs smoothly other than the stuttering. Ark of Truth Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Well your load order is a mess for a start. Did you add any mods between the last time the game run smooth and creating your post?
Parmadillo Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Well your load order is a mess for a start. Did you add any mods between the last time the game run smooth and creating your post? A few clothing mods here and there, but that's it.
gregathit Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 With all your settings maxed (including distance), an integrated on-board video card and only and i-5 processor....yep, that is going to always happen. An on-board video card is always going to suck eggs trying to render large amounts of textures quickly and to make matters worse oblivion is a CPU bottlenecked game. Even an I-7 would do this. I am guessing this is a laptop from the on-board video card. You are going to have to cut some corners somewhere by lowering some of your settings to find the sweet spot. You can try OSR (Oblivion Stutter Remover) but it will only get you so far with your current machine: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/23208 Oh, and Ark is right, that load order is a mess. You need to grab BOSS and use it and then hand order your lovers files to match this: http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=6133 Cheers, Greg
deathparade Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 It seems that "Your load order is a mess" comes up alot on this forum... anyways lower your settings Oblivion uses only 1 core and not much of your graphics card (yea i know kinda retarded right)
Triratna Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 > Wrong texture format can causes extreme stuttering. Last year, i was very much new at texturing work on the necromancer moon prototype. I put a wrong format DDS format and without mipmaps on them. The game frame rate drop drastically while in dungeons and even after the mod was deactivated. The solution was a clean install and installing stutter remover first hand before adding mods plugins.
Parmadillo Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 I don't mean like a frame rate drop stutter, I mean like an actual stutter, it doesn't lag, but it's as if it completely skipped over a few frames and froze for under a second. It's kinda like the microstutter caused by multiple GPUs for one monitor, only you will actually notice it and it's longer than a microstutter. Let me make some ascii Art to show it to you in the best way I can. █=10 Frames (30fps, so 3 blocks= 1 sec) █=Skipped Block (10 frames skipped) ██████████████████████████████████████ And so on and so forth. It happens anywhere in the game no matter what, even in the testing hall or that greenscreen room add-on, and I think I remember it occuring no matter what settings I have it on, I may need to test that to be sure.
gregathit Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Again, this is a function of oblivion being a CPU bottle-necked game and you having an on board video card. That is a combo sure to cause problems. On board video cards do not have the power to render games very well and Oblivion is an older game that sucks as far as its coding to be optimally rendered. The more textures, meshes and plugins that you dump into your game the worse it will get. Your best bet is to make a backup and start disabling things/lowering your settings to try to hit that sweet spot where your hardware can keep up with the game.
Parmadillo Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Alright, I'll start disabling mods, but strangely enough, when I start a new game, the stuttering is gone. Weird. It also doesn't happen when I'm in my inventory.

It likely could be that the longer you play you are simply running out of memory and not able to purge your buffers fast enough. On the inventory screen - that may just be because you are not having to render anything heavy at the time.

I don't want to have to go item hunting again.

Sorry for asking a lot of questions, but is there any way to manually purge the buffers or do you mean the cell buffers that are cleared by "pcb" in the console? I hope this is my last question before I leave this thread to die.
gregathit Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 You can grab a program called OSR (oblivion stutter remover) to help manage your memory and auto run the pcb command it will only get you so far. If your hardware can't keep up with the games demands then....freezes, stuttering or even CTD will be the result. Feel free to keep asking questions, especially if it keeps you from dieing!!!
