Followers not attacking?

Hi all,

 

I am currently using AFT. Followers (vanilla) are not attacking unless they're being attacked themselves.

 

Is there any way to make them attack enemies on sight? Kinda like guards whenever vampires appear they just jump at the vampires, but my followers would just stay there and do nothing unless the vampire attack them.

Other details: These vanilla followers are hirelings like Belrand. I've check their aggression level in the creation kit and they're all set to aggressive.

Anyone have any ideas? The followers will only start attacking if they are being attacked themselves.

I use EFF and there are two states passive and aggressive; it sounds like they're set to passive.

Do your followers automatically attack anyone marked as red on the compass when they're set to aggressive?
