trees Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 So I've been having a lot of trouble with mods lately and it's been giving me a headache trying to fix them all. So I figured that at this point, the best option would be to reset my Oblivion folder to defaults and just start from the top. Now, I use Steam, and I bought the version with all the DLC. Does anyone know how I can reset my folder to default without repurchasing the game?
Thorazine Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 You don't have to repurchase the game just to reinstall it. Just delete the local files using the Steam Library, then delete the actual Oblivion folder. After you reinstall the game, make a backup so you don't have to spend 2+ hours to download it again.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 ... You just uninstall and reinstall it...?
Guest Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 ... You just uninstall and reinstall it...? ... Anyways OP, what you want to do is uninstall the game normally and then manually delete the rest of the game content. Then install the game again and everything will be like new.
Ark of Truth Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 You can backup the game using Steam which gives you the base game without backing up any mods. After the backup is complete delete the local content for the game, make sure you go to the Oblivion main folder and delete the entire thing after. Restore the backup, saves downloading it again. When you buy a game in Steam you have brought it and its stored in the game library. Just in guess this is not a joke, you should read these http://store.steampowered.com/about/ http://internetgames.about.com/od/tweaks/a/steamprofile.htm https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8794-YPHV-2033 https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-agcb-2555

Do not forget to clean before reinstalling the "registry" and defragment the disk that allows the relocation healthier. For a quick resettlement is best to create a disk image and launch a virtual drive. Tip for less mod to be loaded when launching the game, many mods require resources of clothing or armor, they do actually need the meshes and textures, we just have to go do that meshes and textures files without loading the "ESP".
Triratna Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I did like 5 times clean installed Oblivion games in my life time. make sure you purge every single files on your oblivion folders. Then you installed the game back, Make sure to avoid using too much mods at a time. Be Minimal and essential, don't get swamp your load orders with unnecessary mods. As Mod developer, we uses to updates mod like twice or three times a week. When a player "subscribe" two or four different under-developed mod with constant patches at a time. It'll eventually twisted your load orders and broke your game again after numerous conflict.
