Character lighting issue due to animation

I really hope someone can help me out here as I have pretty much exhausted my limited modding knowledge.

So my issue is my character pretty much stops being affected by any light sources.  The mod causing the issue is Real Flying with the "Invisible when folded" wings addon.  I've found a few people with the exact same issue and no responses or solutions, I even talked to a guy on reddit who posted about it over a year ago and he never found a solution.

I've done quite a bit of testing to try and narrow it down.  Here is what I found...

  • Running the game with only the Real Flying mod and "invisible when folded" addon and its dependencies (FNIS, SKSE) the issue still occurs.
  • I've re-downloaded all the files and reinstalled, the issue persists.
  • The "invisible when folded" addon only replaces two files from the original.  The DragonWings.nif and the behaviors00.hkx.  I've tired replacing the actual mesh branch in the DragonWIngs.nif with one from the base mod and one from the wings varriations addon.  Still the issue persists.
  • The issue only occurs when the wings are folded and invisible.  If I jump which causes the wings to deploy lighting suddenly register, but the second the fold up the issue comes back.

Based on what I'm seeing with the wings working until they are folded I believe the issue lies in the Behavior00.hkx file but I have almost no experience with animations and don't know how to find or fix it.  I'm hoping a skilled animator will see this and could look into it for me or at least give me some advice and tell me if its even possible for the behavior00.hkx to cause this.

I'm posting a video of the problem as I've described it.  While the effect is lessened without an ENB active the player still becomes noticeable darker and shadowed when facing a light source.

i'm just going to do a wild guess and assume the problem is on the mesh itself

maybe the new DragonWings.nif file is badly edited in nifscope or just broken

Yeah you know I said I thought it was the behavior file but I looked a little more last night and I guess it could be something in the .nif file.  Like I said it happens with the .nif that is in the download, not just the one i changed.

The only thing I see changing between the base mod and the "invisible when folded" mod is there is a new branch called NiControllerManager.  So I guess it could be something that is changed in the NiControllerManager as part of the animation.  Once again though I don't have any experience with NiControllerManager so if someone that does has a little free time and wouldn't mind looking at it to see if they can tell where the issue occurs I would sure appreciate it.

I'll keep looking myself and trying to figure it out, if I ever find a solution ill post it here.

Another update with some more information, not sure how helpful it will be.  I compared the two behavior files converted to XML and while there are many numbering changes there are only two sections that have major changes.  I don't know that either of them could be doing anything to cause the lighting issues.

So I was able to get it to stop by replacing the animation in the NiControllerManager with a different animation.   I think its something in that branch but I don't know exactly what would cause it.  Does anyone on the support forum have any experience animating using the NiControllerManager?
