Nord_Master_Race Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I'm currently playing on a heavily modded Skyrim. I just started the Civil War as a Stormcloak. After opening the Drawbridge during Battle for Whiterun, I'm supposed to enter Whiterun and take the fight to Dragonsreach.  However, whenever I activate the gates of Whiterun, my Skyrim crashes to desktop without a message. Also, for some reason, as I tried to load the save it once crashed with the message "Skyrim has stopped working".  Here is my load order:  0  0 Skyrim.esm  1  1 Update.esm  2  2 Dawnguard.esm  3  3 HearthFires.esm  4  4 Dragonborn.esm  5  5 Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp  6  6 Falskaar.esm  7  7 SomeguySeries.esm  8  8 ApachiiHair.esm  9  9 ApachiiHairMales.esm  10  a ApachiiHairFemales.esm  11  b BSAssets.esm  12  c Lanterns Of Skyrim - loopie Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 That part of the game had huge issues and was unstable even on completely unmodded Skyrim. Add to that you are running a lot of mods which add NPCs, actually a ton of them, and most likely texture / effect / script mods which don't have an esp to show up in your load order. The sheer amount of NPCs generated during any of the big battles will crash your game. Your game has what ? 2, 3, 4 times as many ? Â Â In addition you are running the grosly outdated and bugridden and unoptimized Bethesda High Resolution pack, without even the patch for it. Not sure if ordenator helps with this, or to what extent. That alone will often overload and distabilize a game. You can just completely get rid of it. if you want to go with a texture pack use one of the good, optimized, popular ones from nexus instead, or you don't need any if you used ordenator. If you were to put in the patch for it now, after running ordenator over it, no idea what effect it would have on your game, may mess it up even more. Â If you are on Win 10, then your game is limited to 4 GB of ram. With what you got, there is no way you can run the large battle scenes unless you really optimize your game, remember, 4GB of Ram, is all the game uses, regardless of your system specs. Â You can try make a new game, see if it works, then once you have a new character set-up, including all MCM stuff, save several times, then load from within that game (another words, kinda manually pre-load a bunch of your stuff). This sometimes helps. I would also recommend you load an older save and dismiss / send home any followers you currently have. Â But no matter what, you just have too much of everything. NPCs, textures, climate and lighting effects, and I don't even know which body, textures and outfits you are using for your player, that can significantly add to it also. Even if you get it to finally load, it will be a giant PITA to actually finish it. Â

Nord_Master_Race Posted August 7, 2017 Author Posted August 7, 2017 You could try to use the console and port your PC to an cell within whiterun or the city itself.  Dragonsreach for example "coc whiterundragonsreach" ... Well, it works, but the things is I can SOMETIMES enter whiterun without problems, however, a lot of the time it crashes. And even when I DO enter Whiterun, the quest doesn't progress. The objective is supposed to update to "take the fight to the streets of Whiterun" or something, but nothing happens. I also can't take a screenshot for some reason. Another problem is my autosaves don't work anymore. I disabled them completly after a few crashes during autosaves, but when I tried to re-enable them they stopped working and never autosave anymore. Sorry for the late reply because I was away from home for a while.  Well, I've not been experiencing those issues on SSE but I wanted to play the original Skyrim simply because of a lot of my favorite mods require SKSE. I guess Skyrim is not built for so many mods... Because I've run out of ideas.

''  The best thing you can do in this case is always to simply disable some mods, try it again and again until you find the cause of your crash.
Kakabishan Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Easiest way to find out if any mod is conflicting and causing CTDs in the whiterun area is to open up Tes5Edit with all your mods and see if any changes are made to the cell of Whiterun. Disable that and work your way through to see the offending mod. If it still occurs, it might be a faulty mesh added from a mod that is spawned that could cause a CTD. In any case, having the mod Crash Fixes helps immensely. Unfortunately crashes in any Beth games are really hard to point towards, just gotta do a process of elimination most of the time
Nord_Master_Race Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 I stopped playing Skyrim for a while... some months I'd say, due to this bug. However, recently I started playing again. I tried to do absolutely everything to fix this error, but it seems not to be mod related whatsoever. It's a bug, and the only way to fix it is by reloading the save from before one receives this quest. So I used console commands to finish this quest, but recently I also have been experiencing random CTDs... It's probably mod related. I tried to disable some script heavy mods like Wet and Cold, Footprints, Duel - Combat Realism, all three, to no avail. Also, I had this SKSE script called Safety Load which may have caused some of the crashes, but the problem is that even when I removed it from my SKSE plugins and reinstalled SKSE itself, the script somehow seems to still be there. I cleaned my saves too. Nonetheless, no matter what I did somehow I ended up randomly crashing at some point. I ended up creating a new save and playing from there however at about level 5 I couldn't progress because of CTDs. So what I tried now was to remove Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini, but that caused all of my saves to have infinite loading times. I started a new game with Skyrim Unbound, and after leaving the race menu there was another infinite loading screen, so I had to add new settings to my Skyrim.ini in order to fix that as well. After fixing it, everything seemed to be okay. Well, that is, until I started running towards the keep of Windhelm, the Palace of the Kings - I encountered a freeze. My game froze, but ambient sounds and music could still be heard. I didn't know what caused this, but after looking through some threads I decided that it's probably this one mod I haven't considered before; Enhanced Blood. Enhanced Blood gave me a few CTDs earlier on too, specifically when attacking enemies, it would randomly crash, especially if the enemy died. So, back then, I changed some settings related to Enhanced Blood and I never experienced this when attacking enemies, but apparently, outdoor CTDs/freezes can be caused by Enhanced Blood too. I disabled it and my game hasn't crashed or froze yet... I don't have high hopes, it's probably just a deception of the devil, I only played for about a minute or two on this save, so I can't really say this is the source of my crashes. But hey, at least now I know what's the cause of the Whiterun siege problem.
Nord_Master_Race Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Ah... well, nevermind. Of course I still get random CTDs. I'm going to reinstall my Skyrim again.
Nord_Master_Race Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Indeed, this didn't work either, because I'm experiencing infinite loading screens. Next mod that I'll try removing is the Quality World Map. I wish myself luck.
Nord_Master_Race Posted January 21, 2018 Author Posted January 21, 2018 After a lot of pain and suffering, I have concluded that what's causing my problems is a corrupted mesh. Or so I think.
Nord_Master_Race Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Hello. I have returned again... That did not resolve the problem. What I did was I disabled quite a bunch of mods, but that did not fix the quest. I sometimes encounter CTD when I go near the Stormcloak Camp or try to open the gates to Whiterun. Could Skyrim Unbound be causing this? Since Skyrim Unbound is supposed to skip a few quests related to Whiterun, this makes me think that the mod is the problem... Well, what I could do is just skip the quest.
