I feel you man, I was the same when I stared making custom followers. But if someone like me with zero experience in this sort of things could make it through, then i'm sure you can do it as well. These are some of the guides i followed, none of them are perfect but they complement each other pretty well:

 

(teaches you how to set everything yourself in the CK)

1. How to create a standalone follower using Racemenu 3 by Bad Apple Pie 

 

(teaches you how to get and set the meshes and textures of your follower)

2. Tutorial: Make any Character a Standalone Follower by Skyla 

 

(some steps that are not included in the other guides to avoid neck seams)

3. Creation Kit (Detailed Followers Tutorial) by Darkfox127 

 

You may want to start with Skyla first. And don't worry man, frustration is part of the learning process.
