Darkening Demise Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 So since a few days ago I noticed a change on my computer. It likes to freeze randomly out of no where for 1-5 seconds. Sometimes audio cuts for a bit too for programs. At first I figured it was the awful Ghost Recon Wildlands not functioning properly due to it being an Ubisoft title but then it happened again in Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 and The Sims 4. Then I noticed it when just trying to use Firefox and download something on Steam. Trying to open up Task Manager or the Windows icon to shutdown my computer too. I tried searching for things about it but nothing is concrete. Some say its CPU can't work well with GPU cuz its sucks need a new powerful one or something or its overheating or its my RAM or its my hard drive 'dying'. Whenever I open Task Manager and look at things I see Disk at 100% almost always and Memory gets pretty high too right now its sitting at around 25-39%. CPU can get high for small things like Bejeweled 3 as I try smaller programs to test performance. Even scanned with AVAST and Malwarebytes Anti Malware and found nothing. As of right now I have yet to encounter this stuff again but not sure for how long that will last. What is the problem? What should I do? It never was like this before. The only thing I did recently hardware wise was install the 1060 6GB after ridding of the 750Ti 2GB. Programs are just games that were installed recently. So unsure of the cause. Its getting worse and I'm getting pissed. Do I need new/more RAM? Do I need a new hard drive? Do I need a new and stronger CPU? Do I need to just chuck this piece of crap computer out the window and just go console peasant? System Info From System Requirements Lab RAM and hard drive from an old HP Pavilion model no. 12435 Processor Processor Intel® Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz Manufacturer Intel Speed 3.2 GHz Number of Cores 4 CPU ID BFEBFBFF000306C3 Family 06 Model 3C Stepping 3 Revision Memory RAM 8.0 GB Video Card Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Manufacturer Chipset GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dedicated Memory 6.0 GB Total Memory 6144 MB Pixel Shader Version 5.1 Vertex Shader Version 5.1 Hardware T & L Yes Vendor ID 10DE Device 1C03 Plug and Play ID VEN_10DE&DEV_1C03&SUBSYS_61613842&REV_A1 Driver Version 22.21.13.8253 Operating System Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 15063), 64-bit Service Pack 0 Size 64-bit Edition NVIDIA Version 10.0.15063 Locale 0409 BIOS BIOS BIOS Date: 10/13/15 11:06:37 Ver: 04.06.05 Version American Megatrends Inc. Now I see why people avoid PC Gaming. 1, Too expensive 2. Too much to learn 3. Too much to set it up 4. Too much to get stability 5. Requires inhumane patience 6. Not light enough to chuck out the window compared to a console Task Manager
Darkening Demise Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 Well I guess it's official. No more computer now on phone. Not sure what to do and with no help here like AT&T customer support based in India this has been 'satisfactory'.
zzz72w3r Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 If the only change is the GPU then I am guessing is the PSU. Those pre-built machines tend to have strict power budget. GTX1060 has TDP of 120W and peak draw near 250W vs. 750Ti's 60W and peak draw near 130W. EDIT: I did a quick check and HP Pavilion normally uses 300W PSU and that's not enough power for your upgrades (mainly the 1060). EDIT2: Check the PSU to see if its 300W. Otherwise put the 750Ti back and see if you still have the same problems. If the system is stable with the 750Ti then it's almost certainly the PSU being too weak.
