CTD When Loading A Game After Restart

Recommended Posts

So, I'm feeling pretty frustrated right now. I've spent a lot of time on trying to do this, and I'm stumped on what could be going wrong here. So, I start a new game. Create my character, let all the mods set up, it's all good. I can still load saves created during that game session, i.e. loading back to just after character creation. Saving is fine, I can go through quests and fight just fine, and everything seems  dandy.

But then, we get to the issue. If I quit, and then join back in, I cannot load those saves that were created. I just get a CTD. I've even gone so far as to trim nearly everything non-sexlab from my mod list, and it's still not working. Say I play 30 minutes. Save. Exit. Play again. Then, I can't load that save, even though I would've been able to load it perfectly fine before quitting. Even if it's a fresh save created just after character customization, if I load it up after restarting, I CTD. I've run Bodyslide and FNIS several times, I've got my Bashed patch properly configured as well, and used LOOT several times.

I've put up my mod load order to see if you guys can help me out, and I've taken the liberty of removing the unactivated plugins, with a papyrus log attached. Thanks in advance. And, if I've posted this in the wrong place, I apologize, and will move it myself if mods haven't already done so.

SKSE: v1.7.2

Bodyslide: v4.3.1

FNIS: v6.3

i have this issue a year or two since i have a few sexlab mods installed but i can still play without any issues by starting up skyrim clicking "new" at the main menu and then when you're new game loads pause it and go to load the save you want to use and it should work fine its what i have been doing the last year or so

Hi. Try this mods http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725/?  or

you need to read and do some thing to make them work but they helped me alot to reduce CTD's after continue game to almost zero.

Thanks for trying, but it didn't seem to help.

I used this when I had this problem frequently. Seemed to clear it up some. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50305/?

For some reason also disabling my ENB when loading up my save makes the save load up fine if I'm having issues.

I didn't end up using that since I already configured my SKSE to use memory more efficiently, and the only ENB I'm running is ENBoost, which didn't change anything when I disabled it.

Looks like this is what I'm gonna have to do if I want it to load properly. Thanks for the suggestion, I just wish there were a way to directly load into it without crashing.

I'll leave the post up for another day until I mark it solved, just in case anyone else can figure it out.

Not sure what's causing your problem, but perhaps give this a shot:  Continue Game No Crash

And do you use this?   Save Game Script Cleaner

Someone already linked Continue Game No Crash in the thread, and the Script Cleaner didn't seem to detect any scripts or instances to delete. Thanks for trying, though, and I'm definitely keeping that script cleaner in case I need it in the future.

Hi

Whats in your bashed patch ? Maybe undo the patching ? get rid of the patch and re-install some of the mods that were inside ?

Deviously Cursed Loot is known to have issues with lots of mods and game in general, its possible to have a stable playthrough with it, but I am unfamiliar enough with a lot of your mods so can't say if that is the problem. I would leave rest of the SL mods alone, just get rid of this one. Perhaps re-install SL framework and go from there.

In general, its bad to have anything interfere with Alternate Start - Live another life.

How many total animations do you have ? Do you run regular or the XXL FNIS ? On one of my installs I kept getting CTDs cause I had 14k+ anims, these new anim packs are huge, had to scale back down to below 12k. At 12k it still takes a really long time to load, but its stable, at 9k+ is where performance returns to normal for me.

Which XPMSE do you use ? Hopefully not the light version or something like that, get the full.

Do you run batch build in bodyslide ? Which body and textures do you use ? Are ALL your armors, outfits, clothes, etc. HDT and for your body type ? If not that will cause issues right there too.

Clean up the mods a bit, start up the game, go into the starting cell, new game, not your old one. THEN load up one of your saves in the script / save cleaner and clean it up. See what it does.

Now, can you start up the game from a brand new game on your current install ? Go to main menu, make new character in the cell from Alternate Start ? If so, do your whole MCM while still in that cell, then triple save.

Use your new toon and new save and choose "patron at inn" and solitude or whiterun. Somewhere with lots of NPCs around. See if all bodies work, if you start having issues.

If you can do this, then the issue is definitly your old save, too heavy, either on scripts, anims, HDT stuff, ENBs, something in it.

Try the following:

Start a new game, make new character, set-up MCM, all SL and DD stuff etc., while in the MCM uncheck all your duplicate anims from different animation packs, re-register, it will say 0 new animations registered but thats ok the point is to unregister what you unchecked, then load your old game from within that game, not from the main menu. See if it works and runs. If it crashes on load, then that old save may be borked completely, keep loading previous saves until you can get one loaded successfully.

Once you load your old save, make 2-3 new ones of that game, exit to main menu, not desktop, then to desktop.

Just to confirm, start your game again, BUT this time, go into the prison cell of the new character, then load your old save from within that, not the main menu. Do this a few times to make sure it works.

Then re-run bodyslide, FNIS, Loot, etc.

If you can load your old game from within the new one but not from the main menu, the culprit is anim lists and scripts (their sheer number), HDT (specially hair and max bounces number) count towards this too.

There are some trouble spots I can tell from your load.

You're running SL stuff + OSA, not saying it can't be done but .... I gave up on trying to get that combo stable with a havy script or anim load.

DAYMOYL is a very buggy mod that causes a lot of drama. if you use SL defeat + rape you don't really need it.

Paradise Halls, xazPrison Overhaul and Deviously Cursed loot are also known to be very troublesome with some mod combinations.

Do you use optimized textures ? Have you ran odinator at the beginning of your install ? Do you use any 4k+ textures ? scale back down to optimized 2k. You can do it now, but it will bork any ENB you may be currently running + you'll need to re-install body / face textures and outfits.

I see you have a lot of killer keo's stuff, with patches ? Most of that is outdated. You can get it all replaced by something new and build correctly with correct weights and optimized textures from the ground up such as the "World of Bikini Armors" mod or alike. Don't need any patches, jsut batch build in bodyslide and you're done.

Do you use ENBs or just ENBoost ? ENBs are performance hogs and can cause crashes, ENBoost is largely a performance enhancer and makes the game more smooth and stable.

Somewhere in the ini settings, and I completely forgot which, there is a setting allowing time for scripts to be loaded up. Find it and increase it.

Have you ever installed FootKitOff ? If so your game / save might be borked from it unfortunately even if you do not use it or have it now.

Hope some of this helps

-snip-

Thanks for such a detailed answer, I'll resolve some of the issues first and then come back later when I've tested the other bits.

I don't run Odinator, I only use Enboost, I've never used FootKitOff, DAYMOYL is required for wolfclub which I suppose I could do without but would rather not. In addition I only have about 4400 animations, so I don't think that's the issue, and I run the regular FNIS. I use the full XPMSE, and when I run batch build, I run it for everything, and they're all for the CBBE body type as far as I'm aware, which is what I'm using. I'll come back later when I've gotten the chance to test what you suggested.
