Guest GingerTom Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 My favourite was Season 3--Torchwood: Children of Earth As 'Gwen' would say: Terryfying.
Kraxon Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Torchwood rules! I like the first two seasons most, but the later are cool two.
Guest GingerTom Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Doctor Who fans were basically 'shocked' by Seasons 1&2 of Torchwood because they were sooooo adult. Season 3 was the best for me and Season 4 was a co-production with the Americans and so was terrible. (I missed the 'play' between Gwen and her husband--to me they always acted like a real married couple. And while she's hot he is simply an ordinary man and husband.) Do you know where the name Torchwood comes from.
thesapien Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I've never tried watching it but am totally stoked about it now. Thanks. I've give up. Where does the name come from? Is it just from those torchwood trees I found online a few minutes ago or something more?
Guest GingerTom Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I've give up. Where does the name come from? I take it you're not a Doctor Who fan? Anyway' date=' it's an anagram of Doctor Who=Torchwood. If you haven't seen Doctor Who: It introduces the main character of Torchwood--the two shows are intwined. I have shown several women Torchwood: Children of Earth and they can only watch the first show. EDIT: Children of Earth is 5 one hour shows that were shown one each night for five night in a row like a five hour movie--if you watch them all in one night your heart will be pumping and the sweat will be pouring out of your body. EDIT AGAIN: Captain Jack Harkness is a fictional character played by John Barrowman in Doctor Who and its spin-off series, Torchwood. He first appeared in the 2005 Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child" and reappeared in the remaining episodes of the 2005 series as a companion of the ninth incarnation of the series' protagonist the Doctor. Jack became the central character in the adult-themed Torchwood, and returned in the 2007 series of Doctor Who, reuniting with the tenth incarnation of the Doctor, and again for the 2008 series and a 2010 special. The show has received recognition from critics and the public as one of the finest British television programmes, including the 2006 British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series and five consecutive (2005–10) wins at the National Television Awards under Russell T Davies' reign as Executive Producer.[1][2] In 2011, Matt Smith became the first Doctor to be nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. The programme is listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world--since 1963. Doctor Who was relaunched in 2005, produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff. Series 1 in the 21st Century, featuring Christopher Eccleston as the ninth incarnation, was produced by the BBC. Series 2 and 3 had some development money contributed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), which was credited as a co-producer.[8] Doctor Who also spawned spin-offs in multiple media, including Torchwood (2006)
thesapien Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I did have a Doctor Who phase for a couple of seasons and really liked it then but lost interest, maybe I didn't like the change of actors? As it turns out, I watched it when Captain Jack was making appearances. I loved the way his character was first introduced as the big head that didn't even look human and that Doctor Who didn't even know that it was Captain Jack because he hadn't met the younger Jack yet and it still wasn't revealed that the characters were the same until later. Oh, an anagram, brilliant! So, yeah, I was aware of the connection between the shows but it started airing at a time when I wasn't watching shows much and had already stopped watching Doctor Who. But lately I've been itching for a new series to get into and this sounds very promising. Thanks again!
Guest GingerTom Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Just a couple of quotes from me and then I'll stop talking (for now) about my favourite show(s): Torchwood: Children of Earth Someone said: i just looked back at this trailer and i had earphones in, turned the volume right up and i almost cried coz i was getting? goosebumps like hell! Another said: I absolutely adore Children of Earth. It's what got me into Torchwood in the first place. Brilliant storyline. It shows how much we worry about our own. Torchwood: Children of Earth--spoilers but a brilliantly made trailer from BBC
Naynay Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Couldn't get myself to continue watching torchwood or Dr. Who. Only lasted a season on Torchwood and like 2-3 seasons on Dr. who 2005 series. The science in Dr. Who is just plain retarded no offence. Feels like a sci-fi show meant for 12 yr olds I only like watching Sci-Fi that has some kind of realism in it. Sci-Fi shows I love Stargate SG1 Stargate Atlantis Battlestar Galactica Star Trek TNG Star Trek DS9 Star Trek Voyager Farscape Firefly
nonusnomeni Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 just watched s01e01 online to see what are you talking about (i still got to see star trek from 1966 so no much time, man what a bunch of beautiful women's, why women's today are not even of 10% such beautiful) seems ok and i never liked dr. who

nonusnomeni Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 @gt "Season 4 was a co-production with the Americans and so was terrible." like that is news?!?

I never got into babylon 5 really, only watched the first five eps. I guess I never gave it a chance, should probably try watching it again sometime. Oops forgot to add Farscape and Firefly in that post lol. I used to watch warehouse 13 with my sis lol at times it gets too supernatural. Not into those kind of sci-fi's really, but I understand why people likes it. Some episodes are fun to watch.
lolerzness Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I'm more of a DW fan than Torchwood. I got more hooked into SJA than Torchwood. FEZZES ARE KOOL

I can help you out there--it's not about the so-called science: It's mainly about the characters and their interactions, it's about the perfect acting, the writing, even the music. It's never been about the science. A lot of it is like the old Star Trek: Thought-provoking, consciousness-expanding. For example: Try Doctor Who episode 'Blink' from the series 2007--one of the best single episodes done for any show anywhere, anytime. So many of the people I've pointed at 'Blink' come back to me and say: "I didn't understand it--it confused me." And my unstated answer to them is 'Yes, because you've grown up on bottle-fed baby food tv pap." No offense.
Guest GingerTom Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 In the end (if you twisted my arm) I would classify Doctor Who as more of a 'Creepy, Scary, Horror' show. (Most of the time.
Symon Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I liked Dr Who back when they used to have a scientific advisor on the payroll, say 1963 to 1980 or so. It tanked when John Nathan Turner became producer and has never recovered. It used to do continuity (despite the nature of the subject matter making continuity hard.) Now it doesn't bother, not even with episodes a few months apart. To give one example, lets look at the angels in blink. The Dr eventually defeats them by arranging they look at each other, which they can't and still move. Fast forward a few months and Angels are running round in a horde looking at each other all the time. 'Nuff said'. As for Torchwood, no better. (Sigh), I suppose the thing I hate most is the breakneck pace of these stories. No plotting, no character introduction and zero attempt at continuity. Long gone are the days of the 'Dalek Master Plan'. Now long lost to official tapes but 13+1! Half hour episodes long. 7 hours to tell one story. Back in the days, much repeated, when a Tardis were built, not suddenly grown and the Doctor had acquired a Mark 40 with a dodgy mercury fluid link. I rest my case, but as we all know, a larger budget does not guarantee better quality.
Guest GingerTom Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 @Symon I won't disagree on the second 'Blink'--it was awful. But the guy is toooooo busy writing for too many different shows--and he just ignores the 'facts' of what went on before. He will kill the show eventually. Did you try Torchwood: Children of Earth? Thats a five hour story--and that's why it's so good. (I agree with you on that.) But you can't expect every episode of a series to be good.
Symon Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Torchwood: Children of Earth started out reasonably but I became less impressed with each episode I'm afraid. (You may call me hard to please (grin)). To be honest, I always felt Torchwood could have been much better if it hadn't had that fatal 'tie-in' with Dr Who. Had it stood on it's own feet, it might have had something. As it stands, the only episode I can tolerate is 'Cyberwoman', mostly because the cyber-knickers, cyber-bra and cyber-kitten-heels are entertaining!
Guest GingerTom Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Funny. Being honest here. The only episode I really couldn't stand for its writing was--you guessed it!--Cyberwoman. (Well, there were a couple others. ) We just have different tastes. (Although I like the Cyber Race.)
Symon Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 You didn't think she was sexy? (The only saving grace).
Guest GingerTom Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I really can't remember what she looked like--I could look it up--but I agree with your 'too much of Doctor Who' in Torchwood, Cyberwoman was the prime example because as soon as I saw her I said: 'That belongs in a Doctor Who show. So it put me off. Now I'll go look for her picture: Okay, I'm back--I even forgot her race colour. In looking her up I stumbled into 'The Runaway Bride'. Did you see that Christmas Special? Donna Noble was a fantastic character--don't tell me, I know, you disagree. There's also a lot of humour in Doctor Who--can't have good scary shows without humour. EDIT: Donna Noble is my kind of sexy. A woman who know her own mind, intelligent--and not afraid to tell the Doctor he's full of it. She made the best companion ever. The first time she said: "Just a minute Sunshine' to the Doctor--I nearly fell out of my chair!
Symon Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 The cyber-kitten-heels are just impossible to forget. I did like her outfit. So much so that I have a 90% complete conversion of that outfit for Fallout3. (A male version too of course. Equal opportunities always). Actually, I found Donna Noble a lot less irritating than Rose Tyler. The 'actress' who played her managed to rival Bonny Langford for the spot of dire companion, no mean feat. Probably because like Bonny Langford, I remember her origins as an irritating child-pop star pretending to be a woman.
Guest GingerTom Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 'Mel'. Awful, awful Mel. (Hope she doesn't read this.) EDIT: You made the costume--now, I liked the costume. I don't even remember the actress. I just didn't like the episode--I didn't believe it for one minute.
thesapien Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 So far I'm only into episode 3 but am finding it surprisingly... sexy! I just paused in mid episode to look up (and then type here) if Eve Myles, the main actress, was Merrill in Dragon Age 2, and it was her! Oh, love her voice!
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 The Dr. Who spinoff right ? I need to see it someday.
