Underwear and how do overrides work??

Recommended Posts

Im thinking that the only way to get what im looking for is to lash up an underwear mod myself (or get one done) so

could somebody point me to the docs on how to get SETS of underwear (same geo in like 12 colors) done and

since part of this is going to be doing unders for kids how do you setup a "failsafe" so that if you empty a kids inventory it swaps to a backup outfit?

I've never done any underwear mods or anything so I wouldn't know the exact steps nor where the resources for it would be, but there's two different types of clothing you can add to NPCs. You can add clothes via dragging and dropping the pieces into their inventory, which means they'll equip it, but it can also easily be removed. Then there's the outfit, which is a set of clothing specified as the default NPC clothing, which is used for followers like Lydia, where if you empty the inventory they'll equip that outfit.

The biggest issue is there may be mods that get around the outfit set. I wouldn't be surprised, and you can't safeguard against that.

If you would like, I can give you the steps for making an outfit? The clothing is just like adding anything else to the inventory, but if you're not sure about the outfit I'd be glad to help.

If you don't mind showing me how that would be splendid

two separate issues

1 how do you create clothing with the same geo but different textures?? (short of making a bunch of copies and editing them)

2 would you have to edit each and every NPC to replace the default outfit??

You could use something similar to what SOS does (or latch onto it), where when it detects no armor, it equips the schlong.  Or more for your situation, a mod like this mod  will only ever equip the underwear.  At that point, all you have to do is define the underwear mesh and use a system similar to SOS perma undies.

Alright, I'll give you an outfit tutorial in a spoiler, with images. It's really easy. Your second question will be answered, as well.

First, you go to Items > Outfit

Then, you'll want to right click in the outfit list, and select "New."

Give your outfit set a name, and drag it next to the object list. Navigate to Items > Armor - You can expand the Armor section to navigate by clothing type, but for this I'll be using the search box.

From there, click and drag the clothes you want included in the fallback outfit. This means if the game detects no clothing in the inventory, it'll automatically equip these defaults. [That being said, if you add something with a larger armor rating than what's in the inventory, the inventory clothing won't be equipped.]

Click "OK" and it will be saved as a new outfit.

Go to the NPC you want with the outfit. You will have to do this to every NPC you want edited to have your new default outfit.

In this instance, I'll be using Braith. To find specific NPCs, it's better to just type their name in the search with "Actor" selected.6Q92UtPES8jqFd3xlyXZn56Ak7aUA.jpg

To find every child NPC, though, children are their own race. You'll want to expand the "Actor" tree and look for every race containing "Child" for full lists of every child in Skyrim.

Now to change the outfit to the one you made. Open the actor window [what pops up when you double click an NPC] and go to inventory. There you will find the outfit section above the regular inventory, and can change it to your custom outfit there.

From there you simply select "OK" and your outfit will now be applied to the NPC. You can preview this by clicking the empty box between "Preview" and "Full" at the bottom center of the actor window.

Try not to have clothes in the NPC inventory when previewing this, or it will likely show the inventory clothing instead. After that, drag the unequippable clothing pieces to the inventory and preview those. You should now have two alternate sets of clothes.

As for question one, I'm assuming you're referring to making clothes share the same mesh file with different textures, and without duplicating the mesh? Just clarifying that's what you mean, because I can give a tutorial on that too.

exactly as an example i have in MakeHuman created a Leotard (ballet type not stripper type) and a cami/panty set from the same mesh

I would like to have both of them in about 7 different colors

Do you know any neat recoloring tricks?? I would also like to do a set of recolored versions of the Daedric Armour but i would need to anchor the colors somehow

Overwrites are simple.

If you want to create armours that are the same ingame but actually different meshes then.

Using leather armor for eg.

Create overwrite of leather armor and point the armature to the underwear amormaddon provided their body slots are the same.

If you want multiple textures you will need to create dupes.

Create a dupe of leather armor called Blue, black and so on.

Then create textures for said colours

on the armour there will be a field for alt textures on the world mesh simply add the corresponding texture you created to the armour

thats it.
