Storms of Superior Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 So, after months of having just given up on the CK, I was watching Gopher's Youtube video on FNIS. I saw that he had his Steam folder in ProgramFiles (x86) folder, and his MO folder in his Skyrim directory. I decided to copy his method, and on a prayer, I tried to open CK through MO, and BEHOLD! IT FUCKING WORKED! I finally fixed a seriously messy problem. The best part is that I found the solution while looking for a solution to a completely different problem. Now to address that problem. FNIS difficulties are plaguing me now. Thanks for the attempt to help. EDIT: I was able to fix the FNIS problem as well, with MO being installed in Skyrim directory. This opens a new, expansive territory for me. So, everyone who has been around for a while knows about my modding difficulties, including my CK that won't launch.Well, I just decided to open my Skyrim SE and Skyrim vanilla folders side by side and look for missing files. The results of the investigation don't surprize me at all; the Skyrim SE folder has CreationKit.ini and CreationKitprefs.ini. The Skyrim vanilla folder is missing those.I'm not sure if vanilla had those files or not- it's been too long since I messed with modding to remember, but they aren't there. If they are there, I'm out of ideas for getting them; Steam claims that all files validate successfully (maybe that pertains only to existing files), and deleting the CK and reinstalling it doesn't make a difference. If vanilla needs those files to launch the CK, then how can I get those files, unless someone has them backed up somewhere with nothing but default settings configured? If I have this problem figured out, it would be nice to know. Thanks for reading, folks.
EternalDamned Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 In the vanilla Skyrim, those 2 files are named differently. SkyrimEditor.ini and SkyrimEditorPrefs.ini
Storms of Superior Posted March 22, 2017 Author Posted March 22, 2017 OK. The closest I have are SkyrimEditor.ini, which you said should be there, and I also have SkyrimDefault.ini, which I'm not sure about. According to what you stated, that file doesn't weigh on the CK, however. The question that ought to be answered and put to rest is, can the CK launch without the proper INI files? This way I can move on from wondering or start focusing on that as a problem.
Storms of Superior Posted March 22, 2017 Author Posted March 22, 2017 On a side note, I can run CK through Steam without issue, so that leaves MO or Windows as the culprit.
beeknee Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Did you download the Creation Kit from Steam specifically for original Skyrim? It's not listed with your Library, it's listed under something like Downloads? I don't remember and my comp is down, so I can't check. Also, did you add the Creation Kit as an executable in MO for original Skyrim? Yes, CreationKit.ini and CreationKitprefs.ini should be in your original Skyrim folder. Also, also, are you using one instance of MO for all your games? Personally, I install a separate instance of MO in each game folder, I'm actually considering going back to only using Wrye Bash.
