Before Modifing Ram Alocance in oblivion

I readed a post recently ,I know ihave 3gb ram. That is the maximum

of my current pc ram card possibility, could it be that all my crashes

are due to insufisent ram alocances ? And if anyone

has experience messing with the oblivion ini would

it be risky to forbid oblivion using 2gb ram and put it to 550mo ?

I know i have 3gb. but still.

Ok, let me shed some light here. By default 32 bit OS's and applications can "only" use "up to" 2GB. This does "not" mean that they automatically will. It is just the cap that they can't "exceed". If you were to lower that cap then you would have "more" crashes and not less.

 

Your crashes "could" be from lack of ram but they more likely are do to "old" drivers or conflicts in your load order. Make sure you have run BOSS first and then if you still have issues post your load order for us to look at.

 

 

If you have a 64bit OS then you can unlock applications to use more ram and you would need to either unlock it yourself or use an unlocker program like the 4GB patch. NOTE: A 4GB patch won't do anything if you only have a 32bit OS.
