Just had surgery on the UK NHS

So I just had my galbladder removed on the UK NHS.

 

There where a few bumps in the road to getting it removed, mostly due to two consultants disagreeing on if I needed additional scans to see if I had any stones in my bile duct.

 

But one the day the OP it went like this:

Arrived at 7:30am at the hospital.

8:45am I go and get ready for the OP, nurses are very friendly and helpful.

8:55am I'm put on a wheeled bed and given an intravenous anaesthetic whilst the doctor and nurse chatted to me whilst it took effect. The last thing I saw was the little room where they gave me the IV

9:00am I was having surgery

1pm: I awake up at the ward I was stationed in, rather than have individual rooms, we use large rooms with multiple beds and nurses. Was given pain killers and anti vomiting meds, they didn't work and so I was given a more powerful IV version to stop me throwing up from the intravenous anaesthetic. Asked if I wanted a cup of tea and some toast to help settle my stomach, was also on a drip for fluids.

 

The recovery took two days, during that time I talked to the nurses, the other paitents (turns out one was from a street near me) and read. Food wasn't bad for hospital food, and we could bring in anything we liked as long as it wasn't home cooked (to ensure health and safety regs had been followed).

 

Now im back home with a 2 week sick note and pain killers.

I had a op back in secondary school. Had my own personal nurse too. In and out again the next day with 1 month rest time.

Damn, that sucks. About 20 years ago I had problems with my gallbladder and gallstones, which you probably know is excruciating pain when passing a gallstone from the gallbladder into the stomach. But I assumed it was related to earlier problems from an injury (complicated story) and thought I could get over it and better on my own. Seems as though I did, quite healthy now, and still have my gallbladder!

My wife had gallstones too. She had her gallbladder removed.
