H-Content in adult action games

Hello everybody, I'm planning on making an action platformer h-game in my free time, I won't do any promises, especially that, first I have to learn how to draw better, I'm good at programming and animating (planning to use bone animations using DragonBones pro or Spine), but drawing needs some practice.

 

However, I wanted to create this thread for some brainstorming in terms of the sex in the game. When you take other adult action platformers, like Future Fragments, Still Alive and so on, when the heroine gets raped by the enemy, it's an another way for the enemy to attack you, in other words, inflict damage to you and let's face it, during that time we want to enjoy the animation, but we can't, since you will most likely be dead or on the verge of dying by the end of it and have to restart from the last checkpoint or save. Some other platformers like Kurovadis (which is my favorite) for an example don't inflict damage during sex (except for a few enemies) so you can watch them without the fear of dying. So whats the problem with that? Well... then the h-content just becomes a filler or just a decoration, if that makes sense.

 

See, what I want to do is make the sex and raping of the heroine be part of the gameplay and not just an another way to decrease your health. But the problem is that I can't come-up with any good ideas. The first thing that came to my mind is to have status effects after getting raped, but that's not the most exciting thing. One other unrefined idea I had is that after a certain amount of rapes the heroine transforms from a female to a futanari (because reasons) and have to find female enemies to rape them and turn back, but i did not come up how that would actually affect the heroine and the gameplay (different attacks perhaps or just reasons to transform?).

 

So perhaps you guys have some ideas or just something you would wanted to a be in a game in terms of the heroine getting raped? I know I did not give any details about the base gameplay except for the fact that it will be an Action Platformer, but I want for work around the actual rape mechanic and then comeup with weapons, attacks and so on, it would be easier since there are more inspirational material.

Funny thing that, I'd been mulling over the same idea, right down to being an action platformer and deliberating how to incorporate sex as part of the game rather than as a deterrent - or if it's even worthwhile to do so. But all I can do is draw, and not yet efficiently enough in my opinion, so for now brainstorming is all I can do. I've been thinking up character designs, game mechanics, and plot, but the only thing I've set in stone is that sex should definitely not actively damage the player while it's going on, like so many "Run Or Rape" style games have where your character's health actively drops while being fugged. After all, that style directly antagonizes what people want out of a porn. A handful of games, like h-game maker Fullflap's Demon's Sperm and Succubus Fist, make it so sex grants you currency/heals you instead respectively, but this I feel also has its downsides - in both games they were incorporated as occasionally appearing "ero" versions of existing enemies, akin to strategically placed health kits. But this means the rest of the normal game is nearly devoid of sex content, far too cleanly dividing the "H" part and the "Game" part.

 

So then we have the opposite case, where sex is a core element of the gameplay, and here I run into a problem that's also regularly shown its head in Skyrim modding - in an action game setting, triggering sex stops all actual gameplay. The two are essentially mutually exclusive. It's not like a rhythm game or puzzle game where you could throw erotic elements into the gameplay. So if the player is meant to actively trigger sex events through regular play, then the events either get in the way of playing the game, or are too short to be gratifying, in an effort to get the player moving. You could incorporate a rhythm based minigame during the sex, perhaps for increased reward of some sort, but now you're encouraging the player to focus more on following the rhythm and dissuading them from simply enjoying the view.

 

So maybe leaving sex as "decoration" is just fine, as long as you don't penalize the player for it like in the first case. What I want for my own idea is for the events to trigger naturally as a result of play, and then it's up to the player whether they want to enjoy it this time or mash out of it and get back to the game so they can see the next level. The H part and the game part should both be part of the attraction, is my philosophy.

 

 

 

This way I could also pursue a sort of multiple endings thing depending on the player's actions. Perhaps going through the game getting sexed as much as humanly possible garners you a joke ending since it kind of spoils the mood to show up to the final battle naked and dripping with... excitement.

Thanks for the reply Mud, your point about them being essentially mutually exclusive made me think if maybe that's the reason why there aren't a lot of action h-games out there, perhaps it's not because they are harder to make comparing to say RPGs which dominates h-game field. But them being separate things are okay with me, since my idea is that getting raped affects what happens after the enemies are done with you, normally you just loose HP, but there should be a more interesting way to "punish" the player. 

 

EDIT: I also play Skyrim with Sexlab and Defeat mods and I actually liked that system(the transition between the combat and the sex is really slow for me tough), as it was a sort of different type of "death"  and did not require you to go through a lot like some events in death alternative do, getting captured and then escape is fun and all, for a couple of times, doing it constantly gets annoying.

Considering anyone with even a shred of potential will get good enough to not be hit by most enemy types in any given game after an hour or two, I would suggest against the concept of "adult content as a function of being hit".

 

Simply put, you'll have lots of wasted development time (weakest enemies won't be able to hit most players, even in ambushes), punish your good players rather than rewarding them etc.

 

Instead, I suggest you find some way to provide it for players who are doing well. Players who did not get hit too much, or something similar.

Alternatively, if you believe the majority of your audience will be bad players (which is the case in most games) you can choose to provide it at set points in the story.

I've think about the problem for quite a long time too, here are some potential results

 

1, the easiet way: Let the heroine (or hero, the worst case)  rape the enemies. With a well-designed QTE system, sex scene could be just treat as a killing move or something like that in God of War or DMC4.

 

2, If you just want the enemies to rape the heroine: Let the heroine to summon a "stand-in" before they acturally get caught, then the enemies will rape the stand-in, maybe it could be made as a "perfect defence" or cost mana point.

 

3, Forget the ACT, make your game an RPG like "skyhill" or "home behind", and use the sex system as a BF thingh

Well that's kinda the reason why I wanted to make an action game because there are just way too many RPG's, but now I kinda see why. Letting the player rape enemies could work tough and probably is the best choice. Also what Vaelorian said is true as well, I had similar situation with some games that i was at that point where unless I wanted to see myself get raped, I could blast through the game without it.

What if you set up like how shadow of mordor has it.   If health drop to 0 put self into like a vulnerable state.  Where you gain an option of three things Enslave, rape, or death.  But this would have a timer of like 10 sec to decide before the player/monster get back up and have 25% health back.  And if you do to choose Enslave or rape or death then add in a Quick time event so That there a decree of control, while not being able to control.

 

And perhap there could even be a thing where in-order for your character to learn certain ability....they have to either enslave  the victim and force it to give you the ability or to rape them to gain an ability but death does not help.  just a bloody mess and some meagerly loot.  

 

So in other word make the rape/sex/enslave a gateway to an item or ability or a reputation toward a goal rather then being the end result of an action.
