Shor Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I am trying to use a mod of Geralt of Rivia (witcher 3 version) in Skyrim. Seems to be a well made mod, mostly - but the glare on the hair and beard is off-putting. The nif says that there is a beard_d.dds, beard_n.dds, and a beard_s.dds The texture files have the _d and _n, the _s has gone missing. Now, all I know about photoshop or paint.net or gimp is just enough to get me in trouble, but isn't the problem likely to come from the missing _s file? I'll try to sound like I know something... the _d I always thought of as the 'drawing' file, the _n as the 'normal' file (which provides the 3d bits, or the 'texture' bits) and the _s file as the 'specular' file, or where the glossy and matte bits came from. Don't know about 'glow', just supposed it also came somehow from _s file too. As anyone can plainly see, I am kinda struggling to keep my head outta the water here. Here is a picture of the beard in-game. and the two extracted texture files. beard_d.dds beard_n.dds Any help, I'll be ever so thankful.
Kaz Aanh Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Glows are _g maps Either way that beard looks quite strange, especially transparency. You can either try to make _s map completely blank and link it to the beard nif or make _n less visible aka merge normal with desaturated diffuse to lessen the shiny effect. Best way would be imo to use crazybump First screen is an example, but you can make it even more transparent that this. On the second screen its from Hires beard mods from nexus for males, as you can see _n are barely visible which reduces the effect of that plastic glow. but imo i see a bigger problem with .nif , try to post it too. Transparency seems to be fukd ( or maybe even glossiness settings in nif are bumped up )
winny257 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 So the beard should look. https://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/110/images/71730-1-1451682539.jpg Geralt Of Rivia Voiced Follower The Witcher by imAarwyn http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71730/? and here to that Voice Pack The Witcher Voice Pack - Geralt of Rivia by zigen1111 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/77522/?

Should the file be 'blank' as in background, or all white or all black... (Your English is MUCH better than my Paint skills...) I'll attach the entire mod... GeraltofRivia.rar Edit: I made an _s file that was transparent, no difference. Maybe I am saving them wrong? Saved as a8r8g8b8, no difference. Saved as dxt5 (Interpolated Alpha), compression = iterative fit, Error Metric = Perceptual, Weight Color by Alpha checked and unchecked. Possibly some less when alpha is unchecked, or maybe my eyes are getting tired. Might try some other save modes... (I wish DDS files had headers that told these kinds of things...)
