I know the new remaster doesn't drop for a few more hours, but the folks over at the Tales modding discord (Tales of ABCDE) have already torn the switch version apart and it looks to me that there is a chance my Velvet nude mod will work without any modification, as long as it's put in the correct folder.  I'm not planning on picking up the remaster anytime soon since I literally beat it just two months ago though, so I would appreciate it if anyone buying the game can confirm if my mod works.

You will need to figure out the location of the GAMEDATA folder; I suspect it will be inside StreamingAssets based on some screenshots I've seen.

EDIT: Maybe not, it seems that the PATCH folder we were using is restricted.  Hopefully the discord wizards will figure out something...

EDIT: Ok, there appears to be a single unused spot to insert a mod.  Try downloading my mod, and copy the files from "GAMEDATA\PATCH\VELVET_NUDE_PROTOTYPE\GENERAL\COMMON" in my mod to "StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERALHIRES\COMMON\"  I'm not sure where the StreamingAssets folder is, I think it's the primary game folder.

EDIT: I can't get my mod to work, but here are instructions on getting jmedia7's mod to work: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/72612-tales-of-berseria/page/3/#findComment-7249181

Thank you for all your help in the past. Could I ask for your advice on this game again?

I tested the mod by copying the files to StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERALHIRES\COMMON\ exactly as you instructed.
During the process, I was prompted to overwrite FILEHEADER.TOFHDB and TLFILE.TLDAT, which I proceeded to do.

However, the game crashed on startup.

I had an AI analyze my Player.log, and it pointed out that the direct cause of the crash was this error:
Directory does not exist [...\StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\CATALOG]

Since I got an overwrite prompt, I assume I placed them in the correct folder. But could overwriting those two files have broken the game's catalog reference?

Let me know if you have any ideas.

ahh I see… can you (or someone) restore your installation, then share the original files in that folder?

Posted (edited)

Thank you @_QEDIndeed there are important files in that folder, and they are encrypted (different from the screenshots of the switch version that I have seen).

Please try this version of the mod.  There does not appear to be a way to generate a PATCH that can be easily installed; users will need to insert mods directly into the game.  I believe this will work, but I do not have a way to test.

I believe this can be installed into any of the following:

  • StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERALHIRES\COMMON\
  • StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERAL\COMMON\
  • StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\BASE\CHUNK0\GENERAL\COMMON\

Choose one of those, back up the files that are already in there before starting.  (BASE CHUNK0 should be the most reliable, but backing up that folder takes a lot of space).  Copy the files into that folder, and run insert_mod.bat.  Please post here if it works!

Out of the three paths you suggested, the GENERALHIRES folder did not exist inside StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\ on my end.
Therefore, I verified the game files and tested running insert_mod.bat in both of the remaining paths (PATCH\GENERAL\COMMON\ and BASE\CHUNK0\GENERAL\COMMON\).

The result was exactly the same for both, with some good news and bad news.
The good news: the game didn't crash on startup and successfully played the opening movie!
The bad news: right after the movie ended, the game froze on a black screen.

I checked the new Player.log, and it is flooded with 3D buffer errors:
UnityException: LoadRawTextureData: not enough data provided (will result in overread).
Followed by hundreds of lines looping VB重複 : XX (Vertex Buffer duplicate) and IB重複 : XX (Index Buffer duplicate).

It seems your .bat injection method worked perfectly to get the game to read the archive.

However, the Unity engine in the remaster is failing to parse the raw mesh and texture data (VB/IB) of the old mod format.
I've attached the Player.log so you can see the exact errors.Player.log

I am very confused. In your first post you told me the game crashed when you put my files in StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERALHIRES\COMMON\ but in your second post you said it does not exist. Maybe the first time you were in a different folder? If that folder does not exist, perhaps you would be willing to try one more experiment - can you make the folder and put my original mod files in it? (Not the new insert version)

VelvetNudeMod_v1.1_insert_version.7z 2.75 MB · 1 download

When I tried this tool,
I ran the command move /Y FILEHEADER.TOFHDA FILEHEADER.TOFHDA.bak, which meant that the game's original file name, FILEHEADER.TOFHDA, was not present in the folder.
This is why the game seems to have lost track of the "Table of Contents (TOFHDA)" and displayed a black screen.

I’m sorry for the confusion.

From the first time I tested, the [GENERALHIRES] folder did not exist. I consulted Gemini, and it suggested placing the files in [GENERAL], so I followed that advice. (It claims that Unity does not recognize files placed outside existing folders.)

After that, I tried again following your instructions exactly. This time, the game launched successfully, but the mod was not applied.

I have attached a screenshot of the folder structure in Explorer where I placed the files.

Due to translation issues, there is one point I am not fully sure about:
When installing the mod, is it necessary to recreate the original folder structure of the mod files?
Gemini says this is meaningless, but I am not confident about that.

--Edit:

It seems Gemini’s translation differed from what I intended, so I had Co‑pilot translate it.

Gemini’s claim is that

“the Unity engine simply ignores custom folders and will not automatically mount  archives placed there.

Therefore, it is highly likely that the outcome will be that the game does not crash but the MODs are not applied (it will launch in a vanilla state),

and the best course of action is to wait for the development of a fundamental MOD loader (or a new Repacker)."

I feel it would be very inappropriate to take up your valuable time since you haven’t purchased the game.

I apologize for causing confusion with my post. Before attempting to create mods myself, I will relearn Unity from the beginning.

After some time I will delete my posts about launching.

I apologize again for the inconvenience.

In your screenshot, I can see the name of GENERALHIRES is not spelled correctly. Can you please try it with the correct spelling?

You will need to create the folder.

Thank you for your reply. I apologize for the typo earlier. I've tried it again.
Could you confirm if the path shown in the attached image is correct?
As a result, the opening cinematic plays, but after that, the game freezes on a black screen.
Since the engine is recognizing the file, I believe the path itself should be correct, but...

My guess is that the game is not accepting new file names.  If you would like to keep trying, please try jmedia7's mod instead, because that mod does not use new file names.  I have reason to think it will work, because someone above got it to work for the switch.

Hello @amorrow28, thank you so much for taking the time to help me again. I also want to sincerely apologize for the confusion caused by my typo earlier.

I checked the report about it working on the Switch, but it seems they are using Atmosphere's file replacement feature.
Since the PC (Steam) Remastered version I'm playing has been changed to the Unity engine,

I've concluded that simply placing the folders like the old method is incompatible and causes a crash.

If I continue to run boot tests, I run the risk of exceeding Steam's 2-hour playtime limit for refunds.

Therefore, I've decided to give up on applying the mod this time and will just refund the game.

I have always appreciated your kind support ever since I started making mods. I will end my testing here for this game, but thank you again for everything!

I understand, thank you for testing! To clarify, the game is running Unity, but it does not use Unity assets as most Unity games do. It is reading all the old files and generating assets in real time. (The folks on discord have confirmed this.) Unity is just a shell.

It is very confusing. Graces f, Xillia and Berseria were all made by different studios in different ways. Xillia is practically a 100% remake, Graces f is a 3D remake, Berseria seems to be minimally remade. (I am only talking about the amount of assets and file formats under the hood as revealed by reverse engineering, I am NOT talking about the player experience.)

I can confirm that @jmedia7's velvet mod works in the remaster.  I put his Velvet nude mod into "Tales of Berseria Remastered\Tales of Berseria Remastered_Game_Data\StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERALHIRES\COMMON" (I had to create a folder GENERALHIRES in PATCH and then COMMON in GENERALHIRES) and the game did load correctly.

Did you use the correct files?  One of the velvet mods modifies her jacketless outfit instead of her normal outfit.

Ok, a short guide on using @jmedia7's mod in the remaster.

Quote

Make a folder, with an empty folder called "mod" and tltool.exe. (Click on link to download tltool.exe from github)

Inside the mod folder, copy in all the mod files.  In TOBNudeV1.rar from jmedia7's mod, grab all the original mod files.  There are four folders to grab mod files from:

  • \GAMEDATA\PATCH\TOBNUDELEANOR\GENERAL\COMMON\modfiles\
  • \GAMEDATA\PATCH\TOBNUDEMAGILOU\GENERAL\COMMON\modfiles\
  • \GAMEDATA\PATCH\TOBNUDEVELVETCOS0JACKET\GENERAL\COMMON\modfiles\ (or TOBNUDEVELVETCOS0JACKETLESS from "-Alternate versions" instead if preferred; the alt doesn't have raw files so the TLFILE will need to be extracted**.)
  • \GAMEDATA\PATCH\TOBNUDELEANOR\TOBNUDEVELVETCOS2\COMMON\modfiles\

**  Do not attempt to use both the JACKET and JACKETLESS mods together, since they overwrite each other.

When you are done, your mod folder should look like this:

Back in the folder with the mod folder and tltool.exe, open up the command line.  (Click on the address bar, delete what it says there, type "cmd" and press Enter)

From the command line, type "tltool.exe pack mod ."

It should generate a new FILEHEADER.TOFHDB and TLFILE.TLDAT.

Copy those files into  "Tales of Berseria Remastered\Tales of Berseria Remastered_Game_Data\StreamingAssets\GAMEDATA\PATCH\GENERALHIRES\COMMON" (I had to create a folder GENERALHIRES in PATCH and then COMMON in GENERALHIRES)

That's it!  You should now be able to play the game with the entire mod installed.

NOTE: As of this writing, /PATCH/GENERALHIRES is checked by the executable but not used by the game.  This might change one day.

PS - This is for jmedia7's mod only.  There are some issues with my mod with the texture .DDS header, and I have not been able to figure it out.

I performed the steps using tltool.exe. Got the naked opening menu (where she is walking). But in the game, Velvet is fully clothed. What am I missing?

have you gotten to the part in the game where her is wearing her default outfit? Her starting outfits aren’t modded IIRC.

amorrow28xlegendgame: Thanks all. I did not get that far. Sorry. Was eager to see boobies :P More to follow when I progress. Also, can't get the PlayStation icons to display. All I see are X-Box prompts. Any idea about that?

Indeed, its' a effect from the nude mod. Can it be fixed? Is quick step necessary to complete the game in harder difficulty?

amorrow28xlegendgameMade it to the prison. The mod works, after escaping. But Velvet is wearing a cloak. I saw a mention of a full nude. I believe I need to swap some files, is that correct?

Yes, jmedia7's default mod has a jacket, and when you equip the "jackletless" costume (a reward for hitting cooking level 17), she will be fully nude.  Since that costume is late game, you can use the "alternate version" in TOBNudeV1.rar\-Alternate versions\--Velvet Jacketless Default\ but you have to unpack it first.

  1. In TOBNudeV1.rar\-Alternate versions\--Velvet Jacketless Default\GAMEDATA\PATCH\TOBNUDEVELVETCOS0JACKETLESS\GENERAL\COMMON\ you will find FILEHEADER.TOFHDB and TLFILE.TLDAT.  Put those two files in a new empty folder.
  2. Put tltool.exe in that same folder.
  3. Download this text file and put it in the same folder.
  4. Open a command window in the same folder (click on the address bar and type "cmd")
  5. Run this command:
tltool.exe unpack FILEHEADER.TOFHDB TLFILE.TLDAT modfiles --dictionary bers_names.txt

The files will be in "modfiles".  This is a screenshot of what the folder should look like when you are about to run the command:

Spoiler

2026-03-0306_38_20-.png.68269edfb770fa4bc69a11c390abff33.png

Once you are done, you can use the files to combine with the other girls' mods in the instructions here.  You don't need to add the files that mods Velvet's costume 2 (the late-game equippable costume), since she's already nude with the main costume.
