Is it better to add monster to the leveled list as opposed to put the monster manually?

What are the differences and what are the pros and cons for each?

the leveled list is easy to edit, but a lot of mods can override them with there own versions (eg: all of the "more/new dragon" mods people have made)

 

adding the creatures manually can be hard to do at times and its easy to make serious mistakes (eg: move or delete Whiterun), but its less likely to get overridden by another mod + you have more control on where they are in the world.
