Suggestions to troubleshoot CTD from Racemenu/Chargen?

Skyrim just crashes without error messages when I try to import a face preset in Racemenu (F9).

 

I did a clean reinstall of Racemnu.

If I only rely on the bsa file, Skyrim complains that I am missing NiO files (probably another mod relies on it).

 

If I extract the scripts from the bsa, that error goes away but the CTD returns.

 

Any idea how I can troubleshoot Racemnu and see what is going on with that crash?
