Loading Save Game CTD's (But not starting new game)

So, I've done a little bit of looking around, I've downloaded "Crash Fixes" patches like the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and Crash Fixes by meh321 on Nexxusmods. I've added an .ini file to SKSE (with or without the .ini file didn't make a difference), I'm running the file on a 64bit windows, I've checked with a Save File cleaner (though I don't know how to use it) and with my limited knowledge, it seemed like it was fine.

However, I think it's something from Lover's Lab that I have. I can't tell what it is, though. I've started a new game with just my non-Sexlab stuff (Alternative life, SkyUI, MCM, and RaceMenu) and the mods I have that integrate directly with SKSE and don't have an .esp or .esm of their own and it works beautifully. I can save, load, etc, without any issues.

But when I turn on the rest of my .esp and .esm's, I can start up Skyrim, start a new game, but can't load any saves -- not even the one above that works fine otherwise. It always quits out of the game.

So either I have a wrong load order (but I thought a wrong load order simply didn't let you start Skyrim, much less start a new game and play perfectly until you want to load a save file), or there's an offending .esp / .esm (like I said, I didn't stop any integrated mods with SKSE when I did the save that worked, just unloaded .esm s / .esps). Some I've tried to disable were For the Masses (still CTD) and Live a Deviant Life (still CTD).

Those are the mods I have and the load order. It's less than 50 mods, to my knowledge, according to NMM (49 total plugins including the base ones from Bethesda). So it can't be that I have too many mods, right? I've only heard of 'too many mods' when people hit 200+. But I have no clue what's going on, so I figured I'd ask for help.

if you think it might be a load order problem use loot, then if it does not solve try removing some mods you dont really need, slavetats and sanguines Debauchery caused me problems in the past... I would start removing these

Download and run TESVEdit.

Run it and leave ALL the mods selected. Click OK and let it do it's thing. If it quickly points to an error and stops, you are more than likely missing a master file (.esm from a mod that is required for another mod). Read the error message and it will tell you what Master file you are missing.

At this point you can either install the missing master file (The required mod that you didn't have installed) or remove the mod that is missing it's master.

In short, it sounds like one of the mods you are using requires another mod that you did not install. Use TESVEdit to find out which one and go from there.

Ciao!

I don't know how these save editor things work, but if something was wrong, I'd assume it'd be big and blaring and I'd know right away if something was wrong, right? Cause both on the Save Editor and TESV edit, nothing blaring came back. There were some overwrites, but mainly with Update.ESM (which is fine, I'm asssuming since that's what it was for).

I'm heading off to try LOOT, and unless someone posts more information about things being wrong when using those two programs... I'll probably just edit this one.

EDIT:

Okay, so running that LooT program didn't show any load order issues, but suggested I clean my DLC's and Update.ESM for missing meshes or something. "Deleted References, Deleted Navmeshes and ITM record's." So if I clean my DLC's and Update.ESM, should that fix these things or am I going to have to do something more annoying?

I have body mods enabled, so that might also explain missing meshes, but I don't know what the rest mean.  -- Never mind, I found out how to clean things, I guess. But Update.ESM seems to be resisting cleaning.

EDIT2:

Well, I guess it worked? I got to an infinite loading screen instead of an immediate crash. I mean, sitting there for at least 2 minutes and not loading probably means it's not going to load at all. And quite honestly, I don't have the patience to wait 10 minutes to see if it loads because you can't simply tab out of it and let it do its thing. I'm going to do a few more tests to see if I can consistently get to at least that point instead of an immediate crash... or take the other suggestion and take off SlaveTats (though when I did this approximately 2-3 years ago, I've NEVER had this much issue with mods from here, and that was on a worse computer to boot!).

I'm just irritated that I'm having to do this much work for something that worked before. I've never had to use SaveEdit, Loot, TESVEdit or anything like that. Oh, and by the way, I got Hearthfire, Dawnguard and Dragonborn to be 'clean' according to Loot, but it keeps telling me Update.ESM has ITMs and missing references, but if I try to 'clean' it via TESVEdit, it'll say that it found and fixed 0 things from it. What the hell is that about?

Yep. Tested it a few more times and I get infinite load screens, but hey, at least it's not crashing immediately anymore. Improvement, right?

you can not clean update.esm in any way, i dont know what problems may happen if you do this

save editor programs wont help you, because you cant save even in a new game

my best guess is that there is a mod incompatiblity as i said before

Oh, you can't clean Update.ESM? I thought I read someone cleaned it somewhere else, but Skyrim.ESM was the one you shouldn't clean.

And I can save, I can start a new game -- it's just that LOADING said save game is an issue. If it is a mod incompatibility, then LOOT didn't pick it up. So eh. It more than likely is, but finding it out is going to be a a pain and I might just play vanilla with just a few edits like SkyUI, Live Another LIfe and Racemenu. -Shrug-

Okay, so sometimes your gut is right and you should just follow that.

Seems like the offending mod was Captured Dreams, which I do remember having issues with in the past when I did this years ago (though I did manage to get to work eventually somehow, I just forgot how.

However, after installing that loading mod above, it seems that I can't uninstall it or it won't even load anything at all -- click load or continue and it simply refuses to even go into the load screen, crash, or do anything except keep me on the main menu. Odd. And when I do use it, it loads, shows a black screen with a crosshair for a moment, then goes to another load screen before finally actually loading.

So it works, but its making Skyrim behave oddly, unless that's the intended effects. But hey, it works now, right?

Yeah, I know, double post, but this is important enough that I don't want to simply edit my last post.

I found out what was causing even Captured Dreams to not play nice. Guess what? I had the wrong frickin ZaZAnimationPack installed. I had simply the PATCH and not the full thing! I noticed FNIS was saying there were missing ZaZ animations, but for some reason I assumed that simply meant that there was an update that didn't include them and FNIS was searching for outdated things.

I probably didn't even need that save loading thing, although the way it handles save loading is still odd and I wonder why I can't just load normally without it anymore. Meh.
