Help and advice for gaming monitors 4k, 60 vs 144 hz? g-sync? freesync.

Hello LL i would some help if someone can.

 

I'm looking for a new PC gaming monitor, i have about £500 to spend, my current monitor is a Samsung 2233 120hz 3D 1680-1050.

I have the following PC spec.

 

asus thunderbolt z77 pro

i7 3770 4.2ghz ( slightly OC) stock cooler.

zotac gtx 1070 AMP extreme.

16gb ram ddr3 1600hrz

Samsung 840 ssd 240gb HDD 3TB 500GB HDD

 

So with the spec out the way i can talk bout monitors.

I'm really interested in a 4k monitor i know i don't fully have the power to max settings ect but i don't mind lowering the setting to get a decant fps

I don't mind playing games about 40 fps as long as its higher than 30(aka playable) I have not got a full 1080 monitor as you can see so i would really be interested in getting a 1440p or higher. Would you say a monitor hrz is that important over resolution?

So in short here is what i would like advice on.

1440p vs 4k?

60 hrz vs 120+

g sync vs free sync

size 24" 28"

 

If you have any advice on any other monitors you have or have had, please to me your opinion and experiences.

The simple answer, 1440p, highest refresh rate possible, and G-sync if you want a hardware based V-sync. (I think it's requires 60 FPS, but might be 30...)

 

I personally fall in the camp of, the next upgrade standard is 1440p. While the consoles are moving to 4k, they they seem more geared for 1440P. Now a 1070, or even a 980 are a completely different story, and i'd give them a reasonable chance of doing 4k at decent graphics. But if graphical settings are being significantly decreased, like i have to do with my 970 (Ya not really a 4k card.), than it's better to go with a lower resolution. The advantage in gaming for higher resolution (in my opinion) is better detail, but if you're sacrifice graphical quality, then having better detail isn't going to improve your experience.

 

As for FPS, you don't sound too impressed with it. I guess go with 60 if it lowers your cost. I consider FPS king and will lower graphical quality down for higher FPS.

 

As for G-sync and Free-Sync, i'm fairly sure free-Sync does not support nvidia and if it does, it's only been recently. G-Sync is cost you about 200+ on the original asking price of a monitor. As i said, it's a hardware solution for screen tearing. I have no information about it, other than that. Also i believe it limits your I/O ports
